I'm a lager/pils guy too. My beer brewing buddies insist on doing an ale too.

A few weeks ago I threw together a honey wheat IPA recipe, using some leftover wheat malt extract, honey, honey malt, and hopped with columbus, centennial, and citra hops. I just racked it on to some dry hops in a secondary fermenter a couple of days ago. The aroma from the gravity sample I took was ridiculously awesome.

If it turns out well, I'll send you the recipe. It's really easy to brew.

I really want to try this. I would love to make a trade with you east coasters for this and I'd send you some Pliny since we have many places with it over here, or some good Russian River stuff.

wondering if you guys are drinking your IPA's or DIPA's out of a tulip glass. seems much tastier out of these than the pint glasses. especially the DIPA's.

nothing like an unfiltered DIPA in a tulip. schwing.

Another new brew: Red Rye. I took my red ale recipe and subbed some rye malt for the base malt and used spicier hops (Chinook and Mt Hood) to accent the rye.

    Sh!tty photo, awesome beer.

Thanks. I thought it was going to be bad because right after I brewed it, the weather decided to get brutally hot while it fermented. I thought it was going to become an estery disaster. I did what I could to keep it cool, and I guess it worked.

It definitely has that spiciness that you taste in most rye beers, but there's also a slight plum note from one of the specialty malts that I used. I know plum and rye sounds gross, but it actually works.

Thanks. One day I'll actually brew commercially and use it at beer festivals. One can dream, right?
