This was a bad year for the o-line it all started when Woodey retired and continued in training camp when Turner went down, our little bit of depth on the o-line went down. Then Mangold went down. I really like Mr. T. But he deserves some of the criticism for the o-line and not getting a pass rusher. He spent way to much time romanticizing Asomugha
This gives you the chance to start rooting for those teams.
Not being honest with yourself when looking at this team sets you up for major disappointment.
It's obvious our FO over-valued our roster and look at what happened. The FO needs to look at every position. Thinking Ferguson is a Pro Bowl tackle sets up Sanchez, Greene, and the whole offense for failure.
That said, we have bigger issues than Ferguson. But the staff needs to get more out of him than we got in 2011.
The entire O line regressed. Slauson was banged up but was pretty steady, Moore has his worse year as a Jet and got no push in the run game, Brick got beat a bunch and consistently made terrible reads in picking up blitzes (he wasn't his usual self which cost us, Mangold was steady but far from dominant like the past couple of years, and we all know about Wayne Hunter.
I wouldn't say Keller regressed. He hardly got the opportunities and teams generally bumped him at the line and always helped out on him. I know great TE's get around that but a guy like Gronk has Hernandez on the other side along with Welker and Woodhead coming out of the backfield in passing situations. They forced our receivers to beat em after the first couple of weeks since it was obvious on tape we sucked. Keller hardly regressed. Its hard for him to have any serious impact when he's either getting the ball with 2 guys draped on him or he's the check down guy. Everytime he got out in space and got the ball near him he generally made a play.
Not forgiving Hunter and Brick totally but the sack stats in general are extremely shady. If Mark breaks the pocket and runs into a pass rusher that goes down as a sack for Brick. If he holds the ball for 5 seconds that's a sack when the ball should have been out in 2.
as with everything in the NFL
IT all goes back to Sanchez
Other Teams blitz Mark cause he doesn't beat the blitz.
Until Mark can stand up to a 6 or 7 man rush and find the open man with accuracy, the league will bring extra rushers.
Look at tom Brady he will throw it over the head of a blitzer, to the open man. Every single time.
With Mark, chances are they will get a sack, Int, fumble or batted pass. So other teams blitz. ALOT.
In general this fan base is in denial. Every other team looks at Mark and sees a very limited, vulnerable player. We look at Mark and it's everyone else's fault. It's the LT, the RT, the blocking TE, the coordinator.
this is the NFL it's all about the QB. every year they make more rule changes and make it more about the QB.
maybe not right now because they are hurt, but Brick isnt doing anything right now either
well he's not injured and that's something. McNeil came into this league with bad injuries and his career is going to be short b/c of it. He's not better by DBrick by any measure. Brick will play for 15 years or more like Lomas Brown.
