Charleston is a beautiful city, however you have to deal with South Carolinians.

Check out Sasha grey's last hit. I'm the pizza guy. ;)
Please tell. nice to hear make moves that work.
I took a banking job outta college for some money and because I had no idea what to do with a theory based international Econ degree...I quit because I hated the manipulative corporate culture and frankly, it was sucking the 'living' outta my life.

Although I'm not finished with the transisition yet, I'd still say the move was sucessful. It worked because I'm getting to where I want to go...its taking a little longer and is a bit pricier than I'd have liked (these damn edjyamacation costs)...but I'm happy.
Yeah I'm just jealous...at my age there's no turning back. I am what I am and just have to stick it out for about 10 more years. :(

I like what I do but boy would I love a different job, just because of the boredom factor.
Im still a youngn so whadda I know?... but I think it's critical to like what you do, and not necessarily be in love with it.

I love music, anthropology, football, and social work. You wouldn't catch me dead trying to make a living in those fields...I'd end up begrudging the things I loved, and hate myself for finding them boring or tedeous.

Btw, carlton good luck man....didnt mean to take the thread in a different direction. My juvenile advise: identify what you like but are timid to do, and take every [reasonable] risk you can to do it...we're still young and carefree enough to enjoy our success, or quickly get out and learn if we fail.

Also, I hear boulder and Austin are both outstanding
Move to Austin. Unless you want to grow up.
I shouldn't even have to answer that.
You can have my job. For some reason, my bosses think it's a good idea to have an idiot like me as their asset manager. I make 15 year pro formas, development budgets and partnership agreement financial statements that I have no idea what I'm doing with. I keep telling them that it's detrimental to the company to have me preparing financial documents like that. The sub-woofer under my desk and the death metal emanating from my office should have been a dead giveaway.

    Help me....

At some point, I'm gonna end up costing them hundreds of thousands of dollars because I forgot to carry a "1". I can only lean on my Excel ability for so song. :O
If only you'd apply yourself.

    -Your mom
You were employed?
 Maybe I should hop into the Skyrim world.
friggin kids today...wwaaahhhh...I don't like my job....
Not everyone can find their true passion quality testing donuts.
Did you quit?

If you are on the move I would suggest Boulder, CO. I have never been to CO but I heard it is awesome.

Last week I was joking with a few friends about moving there. Would love a house with a view of the Rockies in the backyard.
The quitting/fired is a long story. Let's just say it worked out how I wanted.

Yeah I'm definitely taking a week trip there soon.
Good luck dude...any thoughts about Florida?? Try to keep access to Bloomberg for 60 days for free if you can.
I'm not sure where I'd go in Florida. I was actually born in Florida so I've been there quite a bit over the years, but haven't found a city I think I'd love.
Btw, carlton good luck man....didnt mean to take the thread in a different direction. De-rail all you want this is the god damn hampur and if this thread doesn't end up in someone getting banned or a best bar in the Poconos argument I'll be pissed.

    Thanks everybody... except FF2.
After 5 up and down years of making good money in NYC, but hating my job I am officially free to pursue something else. I have some money to survive for a good amount of time and keep my apartment in Manhattan and I'm looking to possibly even move. I'm not necessarily getting out of finance, but definitely not moving laterally into the same exact job as I've been miserable for a long time now. So now I have to decide on possibly a new career path and new location. Scary and liberating stuff.

Places I've considered and will be visiting in the upcoming months:

    Austin, TX
    Boulder, CO
    Charleston, SC
    California (several locations)

Ideas? Million dollar job offers? Jokes about being unemployed?
LMAO!!!!:D

As a parent, I'm horrified at your actions.

As a fake inthernzt pal, I admire your b*lls, and applaud your unwillingness to sell out for $$ while you are still young.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Best of luck in the next move....even if you take some time off, just remember to keep an eye out for the next opportunity. Ya never know where it may come from. Also, you'll still probably frequent those high priced clubs/lounges that you did when the cheddar was rolling in....just remember to be near your employed buddies when you are ordering drinks so they go on their tab. Its harder to live the life when you don't have the income.

    Polliton!

Good luck my man, in retrospect I wonder if I had taken a similar turn at your age where or what I would be doing right now. It's easy to get trapped in the financial world, handcuffs come in many different forms and money and obligations are definitely on the list. Go figure yourself out and find something you enjoy.

Good luck, Dude. Total freedom, what a concet.

When my wife passed, I told the kids we could move anywhere in the country and they insisted we needed to stay here--family, friends, school, etc.

I was ready to pack up and pick and move to La Jolla/San Diego area or Santa Barbara area.

Now that 3 of them are in school/graduated/out and it's just me and my younger sopne during the school years, I really wish I had done that. Somewhere laid back by the beach.

Proly just end up moving to CT near the water when my youngest guy graduates HS. All the kids seem to be staying on the east coast/NE area.

Damn, I'd go the Cali route if I was in your shoes.

Or you could just open a damn bar in NYC, call it the Hampur and save us all some internetz bandwidth :D

I'll give you a great break on menu development for the bar food. Plus, I'll throw in training your kitchen staff.

    1. Move out West. Cali is a bit of a pain in the ass (taxes, traffic) but it's a blast. Weather, girls, Jets West.

    2. Contact Tokyo, maybe he needs a late night partner when he's juggling Yen against the Ruble. :dunno: He might pay a relocation bonus of 50,000....pesos.

    3. Good luck.
