Giants Franchise Weatherford

Now two previous Jets kickers are tagged as such.
Placing the franchise tag on Weatherford will give the sides more time to negotiate.

The Giants' decision to keep Weatherford over former seventh-round pick Matt Dodge last September turned out to be one of general manager Jerry Reese's best decisions as the punting game became a consistent weapon for New York.

Weatherford will be paid the average of the top five salaries at the position by the Giants. If he signs with another team, New York will get two first-round draft picks.
If we give up on Sanchez, you'll be reading similar stories about him in a few years.

What is more unbelievable is that some blame Westhoff because he kicked like **** last season and Westhoff and the rest of the coaches and FO wanted to upgrade.

As if that would erase all the years that Westhoff has been the leagues best.

Oh wait, the idiot, what have you done that I can blame on you lately crew will beat their chests as if they knew all along that he was a star punter.

You know after they were screaming from the rafters that he should just be flat out cut after the GB debacle.

    LOL.

Jets didn't get rid of Weatherford. He and Westy's relationship was so bad that Weatherford told his agent not to answer the phone if the Jets called. Westy was hard on Weatherford and he was justified in doing so. Weatherford had some rough games for the Jets and missed a playoff game with an "irregular heartbeat". Basically was too nervous to play. It just didn't work out. Nobody is to blame.

Westy is hard on his kickers which is why he burns through a lot of them. He is still looking for his next Olindo Mare.

Nonsense. I know it doest fit your Jets suck and always will suck schtick but the Jets dumped Weatherford.

Westy didn't want Weatherford. He charts how his kickers do vs other kickers that week. He thought the Jets could do better and off his last season here, Westy was right. To Weatherfords credit he got his stuff together and had a career year. If he kicked like that the year before with the Jets he would have been a Jet.

Weatherford could have told his agent that, I doubt it, but made no difference, the Jets weren't and didn't call.

Weatherford had more than a few stinkers for the Jets not to mention his gambles on fake punts which prolly gave the long suffering Westy heartburn to add to his other ailments

the franchise tag for a punter is roughly the same as the price for a journeyman backup offensive guard

    in other words

    cheap

Westy judges his kickers in relation to the opposing kicker on game day. Thats his criteria. If his kicker gets beat more often than not, he's looking for another kicker. He said that Weatherford lost our more often than not in comparison. Weatherford had more than a few stinkers and more importantly blew a few in playoffs.

Still hard to figure out how you blame a guy because he could guess that Weatherford would have a season better than ever before. Nothing he did before would lead you to believe that. Happens, you move on.

Funny that westoff holds his kickers to such a high standard that he keeps getting rid of them because he and the jets seem to think they can drag any reject jag off the street from other teams and turn them into gold. Stop doing idiotic things like drafting the Qb's best buddy and use later picks on the kicking.
