The Cowboys and Jerry Jones have set their sights on Carl Nicks. It would be a shock if her ended up any place beside Dallas. The Jets will be looking for a Rt more in freeagency, than a guard.

I see Denver Broncos being big players for Mario williams. (have alot more money to play aro0und in Fa, than the Jet have. The Chiefs for Paul Soliai
broncos and chiefs are keeping their money in case Peyton picks them. Jets need to strike quickly. Nicks would be a great addition, but if he chooses Dallas find another option . Then upgrade the kicking game, odds and ends...makes a lot more sense than blowing 20 mil on Williams.

    Durability is def a concern
On some of the other comments wasn't the same things said about peppers? (takes plays off. Doesn't play hard all the time?)
After his big contract, he's done very well.

I don't normally say this but MW is worth the risk. We need a legit pass rusher.
Him and maybin coming off the sides with pouha and wilks in front?!?

Agreed about Nicks he would be a very big help to this team.

Want to know the galling thing about Nicks? We picked Eric Ainge 2 picks before he went in the 2008 draft.
cut pace, scott... opens up room for jarrett johnson & mario williams
I don't know about pace, but jets restricted Scott last year in hopes of getting asamuogha and cutting him this year would actually lose money on cap.

Nicks is raw, and has only one year of starting experience at the D1 level. He needs time to refine his skills because he has been successful because of his physical traits. As a 25 year old rookie, the time needed to refine his skills make scare some teams off.

this was a scouting report on nicks in 2008. can't really blame jets for this one as well as no way to know ainge would have drug issues

Nicks isn't coming here. Vernon Carey is the OL the Jets are going to sign

And in itself that'd be a fine upgrade. You'd have cash left over to take care of Pouha, sign Manny Lawson (please!) and upgrade Conley/Folk.

    LOL

If the Jets just committed the next 2-3 years to Sanchez as our starting QB in order to bring in Vernon f*cking Carey...then Good God. Where is this team headed?

Definitely better places to spend your money, but he's at least decent on Run blocking anyway, which is a modest upgrade. I'd much rather Evan Mathis tbh, but the key is adding a useful piece to the line before the draft.

Chiefs have what 60 million to spend and Broncos 50 million. You think they can't afford both.

My point was even if you don't get Nicks...and who says he doesn't tell Dallas no...there are other guys out there worth signing. And doing it while the other guys are distracted makes sense, doesn't it?

They are talking about Carl Nicks the stud Guard from the Saints. He a beast at guard that would improve anyone oline. What Nicks are you talking about.

if you follow along you'll notice someone posted nicks was drafted 2 picks after jets picked Eric ainge.

I was merely stating that Carl nicks coming out of college there were the aforementioned concerns.

    class dismissed

1 There is Carl Nicks- the rolls royce of Olineman (guards) Next is Ben Grubbs(Ravens) than a big drop off to that next level. Sure you can get cheaper Freeagents that might not be in his class, but still fill a important role on the team(fill needs) . The only point is to get the best, the teams with the most cap are probably going to get that top guy.

I think Evan Mathis is 2B to Grubbs' 2A, but I agree the position is top heavy. The Jets have the cash to compete now for at least Grubbs and Mathis if not Nicks. If that doesn't happen, you draft the RT position and go shopping for an OLB.

    Absolutely.

Restructured Ferguson (saves approx. $7 mil)

Cap roll-over from last season (approx $8 mil)

Signed Sanchez to an extension (was really a restructure, we'll find out how much $$$ it saves)

Jets are still going to restructure Harris, will probably end up restructuring Hunter (if they haven't already done so) and are still going to cut overpaid duds like Eric Smith.

Jets don't need a Guard. Sure Nicks would be an upgrade over Moore or Slauson but not really a necessary one. Only OL position Jets need is RT and they can get that in the draft with Mike Adams or Cordy Glenn.

If the Jets are getting a big-time FA it's going to be a pass rushing OLB like Mario or Cliff Avril.
