He wouldn't play FS. He'd be insurance should Landry get hurt. If they sign Bell, Smith could be cut. Is Smith cuttable?
That would be addition by subtraction.

Knows the division and is a solid safety. No issue.

Bell would be a nice addition. Not a name player and getting up in years, but the guy can play. We need a good backup at SS with Landry's injury woes, and Bell would be a good fit. He's tough and he makes plays, and always showed up against the Jets.

    Agreed.

    Although I'd prefer Kristen Bell.

This would be a good depth signing. Obviously Sparano would know him so if he thinks Bell still has something left then he's probably worth picking up. We just need bodies back there right now !

Bell is a damn good player... Dunno about the age at this point, but he's an excellent safety.

Why is this so hard for everyone to understand? If we sign Bell it's not to play FS. Bell is a SF and would be insurance for Landry. Leonhard will most likely only be back if we don't land a safety in the first couple rounds. If we sign Bell it could spell the end for Smith. Bell would be a cheaper version of Smith at this point, which is fine.
Smith is 100% cuttable. They actually save 2.5 million by cutting him. That being case, sadly it does appear Rex loves Smith, so I dont think he is going anywhere.
Putting aside the money (as once the season starts, its irrelevant), Smith has a place on the roster. Unfortunately, that place is not starting safety. If he was limited to Special Teams and came in on passing situations in place of Bart Scott, he'd be a valuable role player.

So does Westoff, too valuable on ST's.
Multiple sources per twitter.

@alexmarvez: RT @ProFootballTalk: Former Dolphins S Yeremiah Bell visiting with Jets today, per league source<Would be great Jets pickup, imo
I would take Yeremiah Bell over Chris Johnson in a New York minute.

Yeremiah Bell wouldn't have any effect on bringing Leonhard back.

Bell would be replacing Brodney Pool.

Leonhard coming back will be based solely on if he's healthy or not.
