Weightlifting is fine at 13. Just focus on form so he doesnt injure himself. and have him go light for awhile.
POTY
If he wants to be a good athlete, then lots of reps with light weights. The level of strength a 13 yo can develop through consistent reps of manageable weight is formidable. All that raw power will be available for skill training. I've seen it go the other way and it sucks - kids that bulk up for High School football have obese lives waiting for them.
he should not be lifting weights unless he has hair on his nuts...
let him run all he wants, otherwise pushups and situps should be ok for now
Just add some bench press, some flys, and a set of press just to get the muscles growing together, symmetrically. That type of stuff. It definitely gets the testosterone going.
LOL, not a phase -- not this kid. This boy's committed to going to Annapolis, and hoping to make their LAX team...everything he's done since he's been 7 years old has been working toward that goal. I don't know where he gets it...I keep comparing his facial features to mine and eyeing my wife suspiciously.
It that organized youth team sport?
Boom, FF2 nailed it. That's just some turble parenting, Shakin.
Like others have said, make a point of form over weight and completely dissuade his wanting to "max-out".
