Predict the defensive depth chart by Week 1

Who is starting? Who is backing up? Who has been cut?

Anyone think we'll play more 4-3 than 3-4 this year?

Way too early to be projecting lineups, but I do fully expect to see a lot of the 4-3 this season. While I don't expect it to supplant the 3-4 as their primary formation, the new depth on the DL should necessitate a change.

I think it's semantics calling it a 4-3/3-4/etc. We've been running the "hybrid" for years now. If Coples works out, look for great play from Wilkerson, Maybin, Pace, and a couple of others.

    LE Coples/DeVito/Dixon
    NT Pouha/Tevaseu/Ellis
    RE Wilkerson/Pitouita
    OLB Pace
    OLB Thomas/Maybin
    ILB Scott/Davis
    ILB Harris
    CB Revis
    CB Cromartie/Wilson
    S Landry/Bush
    S Smith/Allen

Biggest rotation is the D-line. Safety is the weakest. Landry and Smith play the same position, IMO. We still need someone back there. I don't like the safety situation, to be honest.

We'll probably pick Jimmy back up before training camp.

If he's healthy, that's the best option, IMO.

That is a very good looking defense, I think there's a good chance we finish #1 next season.

Don't forget to add SAR 1 to your list of pass rushers, if he can rush qbs the way he verbally assaults them(mostly ours though) then the SB's a lock.

The Jets will play plenty of 4 man lines, like they have in the past. They actually don't line up in a traditional 3-4 that much. Coples will be in position to rush the passer at DE and at DT.

The Jets can have 4 man rushes like this on passing downs

    DE-Quinton Coples
    DT-Muhammad Wilkerson
    DT-Marcus Dixon
    DE-Aaron Maybin

    Or they can go

    DE-Calvin Pace
    DT-Quinton Coples
    DT-Muhammad Wilkerson
    DE-Aaron Maybin

I feel that one of the rookies will be starting at FS. Smith should be no more than a backup. If he starts other teams will attack him.

Don't be surprised if/when UDFA Marcus Dowtin cracks the 53 and makes an impact on ST's and passing downs. Kid was a HIGH priority UDFA for the Jets and has signed a 3-year contract.

Marcus is a baller. Had him as a 5-6-7 round pick on my board but slipped due to questionable character and slightly underweight
