    Joey is staying.

According to Brian Costello on twitter Raiders hired someone else. Thank God, especially after the good draft we just had.

Reggie McKenzie didnít waste time in adding to his scouting department.

ESPNís Adam Schefter reports McKenzie has hired longtime Green Bay scout Shaun Herock as the teamís director of college scouting. Herock was with the Packers for 19 years. McKenzie came to Oakland as general manager in January after a long stay in Green Bay.

Herock is the son of former Raiders and Packers personnel executive Ken Herock. Ken was one of the men who advised Oakland owner Mark Davis after Oakland owner Al Davis died last October. Herock also recommended McKenzie to Davis.

The Raiders fired former college scouting director Jon Kingdom after 33 years on Monday. Wholesale changes have been expected since McKenzie took over. Shawn Herock has long been considered as a possibility to join Oaklandís staff. He was the Packers assistant director of college scouting for 11 years. Heís been an NFL scout for 23 years.

Jets college scouting director Joey Clinkscale had been linked to the Oakland job. He went to the University of Tennessee and was childhood friends with McKenzie. During the draft, Clinkscale said he expected to remain in New York.

C-Mart, what do you think happened here? I thought maybe he wanted to leave because there might have been some issues regarding the draft. I guess not.

Rumors started to swirl that he might leave, because of the close relationship he has with Reggie McKenzie, and how easy it was for the media to make the connection that the same role Clinkscales fills for the Jets, would need to be filled with the Raiders.

At the end of the day though, Joey has his eyes on one day becoming an NFL GM, and moving the the Raiders to fill the same role would have been a sideways, and in all likelihood put him further away from one day achieving his goal.

Joey is liable to get a job as a GM one day, be it when Tannenbaum retires and Joey replaces him, or when we have some continued success and his role with such a high profile team leads to another franchise giving him the opportunity.

...with the Raiders he'd have been joining a franchise much further away from success, and thus, further away from elevating his profile to the point where another team would offer him a GM job.

As nice a narrative as it made for the media.....from a professional standpoint it would have made little to no sense for Joey to make such a lateral (at best) move.

JMo Joey Clinkscale probably was the one leaking that story of his friendship with Reggie Mckenzie. Probably to get a better deal with the Jets.
Reggie Mckenzie might be good friends with Joey but he never had a working relationship(that a big deal when your forming your scouting report)

Reggie hiring the former Packers scout to that role( had a working relationhship) support that position and why you expect a lot of his future hires will be from packers also.
The Jets are not further along than the Raiders. Raiders don't get rash injuries they would have walked away with Afc West last year.

Clinkscales was asked on the post-draft presser if he was leaving, he said he understood the correlation between him and McKenzie since they are friends/played football together in H.S./college, were in each others weddings, but he said "this is where I started and this is where I expect to be"..

Yet clowns like Francesa and Schwartz won't make one mention of the fact that Clinkscales is staying.

The pick was clearly a team decision, and Tannenbaum wouldn't have it any other way. Neither would Rex for that matter. He's smart enough to know it doesn't work otherwise.
