Goodbye TV, you sucked! (a.k.a. blaming things for Jets failure)

Bought a 32" Sony in 1996 with my then girlfriend. It was in our living room in CT, kept it when we got married, moved it to Phoenix with us around 2002. It's been in our bedroom for the past 5+ years. I treated that 100 lb. pile of Japanese transistors dearly.

Well, I finally got rid of it after 16 years! Not because it was old (it was) or because there's much better technology (there is), but because it's the television upon which I've viewed all 9 hours of AFC Championship game losses by the Jets over the past two decades.

I threw a beer can at it in 1999 around the time Alex Van Dyke let a ball bounce off his chest at Mile High. I threw the remote control at it when Peyton Manning started lighting us up in the 2nd half in 2009. And in 2010, when we came up one possession short in Pittsburgh, I simply cursed it and told it I was going to get rid of it. Well, I finally did.

    Bye Bye assho!e!!!

This thread is your obituary. :byebye:

(Note: This is not my actual TV. Mine is on a curb in front of the local Goodwill with a note that says, "Do not watch football on this TV")

Is that a black and white?

Widescreen High-Def is pretty cheap these days, and will set your TV watching free my friend. The $300 minimim investment will prove well worth it.

I used to have an old tank like that in my JETS man cave. It was a Panasonic 32" version. Needed 3 guys and a dog sled to move it.

I too tossed plenty of canned beer its way...............

Oh yea, holy hell I forgot how heavy tube TVs were. 32 inch back then = pain in the ass.

Notice the #32 and pain and the ass...

So I have to throw out my TV after a Jets loss?

I always thought it was because I drank too much. Or drank too little. Or pissed during the wrong commercial.

Guess there'll be lots of used TV's on the market soon.

WOW, this post brings back some memories.

The first TV my parents brought for me to put in my bedroom was a Sony Trinitron.

I have fond memories of countless Madden Tournaments with friends as well as NHL '94 (greatest sports game ever).

I thought it had a great picture on it.

Mine had a much worse fate than yours. Got into a fight with one of my bros and we knocked it off the stand and it fell on its screen. I sh!t my pants.

Hopefully a Pats fan ends up with yours, LOL. Maybe it is cursed. :D

The Salvation Army where I make donations to has a drop off site where you get a reciept for tax purposes. You dont leave anything on the curb.

Are you sure you don't want to leave it on your front lawn, plugged in and showing static to creep out the neighbors? :D

We had one of those heavy-as-**** tube TVs, a Magnavox, in our bedroom, too. But when the car crashed through our house, we got insurance money to replace things and decided to get a new 47" LCD for the living room, move a smaller LCD to the bedroom, and get rid of that ancient monstrosity. Gave it to our contractor and said he could keep it or drop it off somewhere. I think he kept it for his spare room. These things will never die!!!! :)

I'm surprised I kept it as long as I did. It was a tug-o-war between my usual desire to own the latest/current technology and my "buy and hold" philosophy where I try to squeeze every ounce of value out of something. :P

It honestly was a good TV for 16 years. But when I thought about the fact that this was the exact TV I've watched all three of those nightmare games on, it's a miracle I didn't punt it in 2009. In 1999 it was my living room TV in an apartment, hence the best and only real option for watching the game. But in 2009 and 2010 the Sony was up in the bedroom. I had started watching both games in my living room on my larger flat screen TV, but because of what happened in those games I ended up retreating to the bedroom to watch the end of those games with the door shut while my wife would try to explain to the kids, "okay, now Daddy needs some alone time to go upstairs and watch his Jets in private, okay? We're going to let him be for a couple of hours, even if we hear some yelling."

Also, I did get a receipt from Goodwill. :D When I say I left it out front with the note, I helped the guy unload it from my truck to the curb where other large items were awaiting a team of Goodwill ironmen to carry them into the warehouse. I have to say, I enjoyed driving away and seeing that big bastard baking in the 100 degree heat of Phoenix.

    you damn skippy..

We just moved my 91 year old mom in with my brother, and she insisted on her big a$$ tv going with her ( had to take back two flat screens she hated) and the only place to put it was on top of some wardrobe thing..

One day soon, I am going to throw it off the bridge just for making me do that.

Looks like you've been sitting to close to the screen while watching porn. You might want to wipe that down before placing it at the curb.

Ha! That's a picture of the type of TV I had....but not my actual TV.

Wish it was mine and I could say I was sitting across the room and had great aim. :P
