Namath was originally publicly critical of the Jets’ trade for Tebow in March, saying at the time he was baffled and accusing the team of trying to “grab headlines.” But a few weeks later, he seems to have warmed to the acquisition.

He believes the balance between the two players can work, citing his respect for new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano. His initial skepticism stemmed from the fact that teams that use Wildcat packages like Tebow is expected to run generally have questions at the quarterback position. But he is confident the Jets “have something up their sleeve” and that Tebow will be a positive addition.

Cimini, from the same event, wrote:

Namath, an outspoken critic of his former team in recent years, tried to put a positive spin on the current quarterback situation, yet he made one remark that will raise some eyebrows.

"Only four teams have used (the Wildcat) in professional football, and they were all because they didn’t have a quarterback," he said.

Hardly a ringing endorsement of Sanchez or Tebow, but Namath explained he likes the Wildcat for the Jets because of Sparano’s knowledge and the problems it will cause for opponents to prepare for.

Joe might think Sanchez is a "much better" QB than Tebow, but it's obvious he thinks Sanchez lacks the thick skin. I prefer Sanchez, but that is my biggest issue with him, too. If Tebow does steal some snaps in practice and/or the game, Sanchez absolutely cannot let it bother him. We've all seen when Sanchez makes a mistake, the awful body language comes out, the mechanics get rushed, the bad decisions follow next. Make the plays when you are in the game and you won't have to worry about losing snaps. This competition is exactly what Sanchez needs -- either to get better or to show he's not the guy. I hope it's the first part.

As for Joe, I like a guy who speaks his mind, but he's never been about "think before you speak." Right away blasts the Tebow trade, doesn't like the Sparano hire, but then backtracks weeks later after he "thinks" about it. Stop creating headlines and put some thought into things before you say them. You look like the talking heads on ESPN, NFL net when you blurt things out then backtrack weeks later.

    Hmmmmm..............
Namath= QB controversy headlines

I hear Steve Grogan will be commenting on the controversy between Tom Brady and Brian Hoyer in tomorrow's Globe. ;)

Why? Because he writes the truth?

Funny how Jets fans react to anything remotely negative about their team.

Sanchez may be better than Tebow. But Sanchez is hardly "sensational" as Joe suggests. At best he's in the lower middle third of QBs.
Perhaps Joe has been enjoying his Chivas or having onset of Alzheimer's.

Like the way Pats fans stumble over each other to defend their cheating HC, his and the teams legacy?

Causes Pats fans to head to the internet, on another teams board.

    That kind of reaction.

No. Because Cimini spins words and phrases to suit his own agenda.

When I read what Namath said about teams running the wildcat mainly do so because they have questions at QB, I read it as that is why Namath was skeptical of the Jets getting Tebow. Because he doesn't feel they have a question at QB. So why get him? Of course Cimini spins it another way. Because he's an *******.
McElroy should be cut. So should tebow and holmes, but that's for another thread.
On the other hand McElroy runs a pretty sweet option.
