Video Capture Software-why do I keep getting crappy, pixelated crap?

    Phaigs,

    Does anyone know of a free (of course) video capture software or program that can actually capture *good* qualify images and save them as avi files?

    For example, I'm using SnagIt (to record segments of YouToobz videos) to capture sections of videos, but when it's completed, the video itself is all choppy, pixelated crap - how come it does this?

    If someone can help me with this, Im sure the Hampur will benefit via newly created crisp gif animations and what not - but I need help first.

    Thankee

    Not sure what definition you are 'snagging' the videos at. Make sure it is at the highest resolution and the video is the original size (not stretched to fit the screen).

    This may help a little, but snagging video clips is not likely to offer the best quality.
I use Camstudio ->http://camstudio.org/
I downloaded that, going to give it a try later on.

    I'm not sure if its my resolution, or my video card, but it seems that I can never be able to create those super clean, crisp animated gif images. The only way for me to sharpen the image is to reduce the crap out of it so that its super small.

    I think part of the problem is I'm using my non-top-of-the-line work laptop.

    Try http://dvdvideosoft.com/

    It's a great freeware suite of programs that has tools for doing anything with any media file. Converts anything to anything. good DVD burner. Youtube videos convert to MP3s in a snap.

    Just make sure you're careful on the install to uncheck the toolbar add-ons, and you'll thank me for it. Small program too considering how robust it's feature set.

    I've been using freecorder to capture sound from utubez. it installs as part of firefox. just be carefull of the extra bloatware that comes with it.
