It's not an easy read which is a big reason it stuck with me. Each character's story is unique and incredibly detailed. It's a super nerd session. We should officially merge our JI logins. Can I have your assistant's number?

If they remake Blade Runner, I'm walking into Hollywood with 5 pounds of C4 strapped to my chest.

Let's remake The Godfather or One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest while we're at it.

These talentless dicks in Hollywood need to come up with some new ideas. Stop f*cking with the classics.
EAD, I loved Blade Runner, but a 30 year old sci fi movie CAN be made better.

We're not talking redoing The Godfather here.

Most of the new remakes have been serious, dark...better.
No. Just no.

A vastly different issue. Total Recall V1.0 was almost a comedy, and bore little resemblance to the original tale. That warrants a remake, although teh results are as yet unknown.

Blade Runner, while substantially different than Do Androids Dream... is still serious and deep in the same ways the novel was. Redoing it simply to have better, flashier 3-D graphics would be...a waste.

Far far better to let this particular cinema Hall of Famer retire in peace now, and instead adapt any number of Dick's other similar themed works.

There is literally an entire shelf of Dick's work that could still be adapted and be massive blockbusters in the right hands, not counting his huge assortment of short stories (a treasure trove of film ideas).

No, no need for remaking Androids Dream or Blade Runner. It's more than good enough, more that deep enough, as it is. Remaking it would be like remaking Jaws. Pure blasphemy.
Disagree.

There may BE an entire shelf of Dick dickworthy, but that doesn't mean you can't perfect the past Dick, no matter how good that Dick was.
how dare you.

I love Arnold, I think proly 5 of his movies are in my top 50.

Having said that, as great as Total Recall was, the Colin Farrel version is going to be darkly awesome.

And if you tried to pucnh me, you'd overshoot and miss, and my follow up uppercut shot would burst your spleen.

You would enjoy it. It's a bit slow at times, but has that intellectual appeal to it that you will find interesting.

If you're looking for shoot em up, blow em up with the kung fu grip, this isn't the movie for you.

Absolutely. Arnold mixes dry roll your eyes humor with over the top action scenes that makes his movies fun.

    +1

The trailer for this is really cool. I'm more excited for this than I am for the superhero movies, minus Batman.

In sci-fi circles, yeah, Blade Runner basically IS the equivalent of The Godfather. It's the f*cking Citizen Kane of sci-fi.

Like Fish said, this isn't some campy science fiction romp like Total Recall. This is a movie that actually made the AFI Top 100 (It's the only sci-fi film other than 2001 and the original Star Wars to do so) and is viewed as one of the most influential films ever made. It's Ridley Scott's masterpiece.

You don't f*ck with movies like this.

And please name me a few of these "serious, dark" remakes that surpass the original. I'd love to hear about them.

You don't think the new Batman franchise isn't 1000X better than the one starring Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney? Heath Ledger versus Jack as The Joker? Much darker, much more serious, better cinematography. Don't get me wrong, I liked the earlier versions, but the new franchise blows them away.

You don't think the newest Bond franchise isn't better (darker, more serious) than almost all of the previous Bonds (other than Connery--and his were still a bit campy). Casino Royale WAS a remake.

One of my favorite movies as a kid was The Omega Man with Charlton Heston--but it's extremely dated. I Am Legend was a very solid remake.

Look, I loved Blade Runner, but doing a remake doesn't mean you have to throw out your DVD of the Ridley Scott/Harrison Ford version--neither of which, btw, even liked the way it was originally released--they were extremely vocal in their displeasure with the way the producers recut it to satisfy Hollywood.

And as much as I liked the original Total Recall, I think the new Colin Farrell version is going to be great.

Just saying, I wouldn't mind seeing a newer take on Blade Runner. You don't have to see it, you know.

Comic Book moviews are all fail. But thats just me.

Sort of remake at most tbqh. Also, very different genre. Spy vs. Sci-Fi.

But I agree, 2000's Blond Bond is (IMO) 100% better than 70's Sly Sexy Spy Bond.

You think I Am LOLgend was solid?

Um, ok. You get jiggy wit dat.

Fair criticism, there WAS (and probably still is) alot of issues between Scott, Ford and teh studio on what version was best, what should be in, what not in, ect, ect, ect.
And as much as I liked the original Total Recall, I think the new Colin Farrell version is going to be great.
I agree. But I just don't see the same differences with Blade Runner. TR V1.0 was a Campy Musclebound Action Flick. TR V2.0 is (it seems) more Blade Runner, less Commando. Very different.
Just saying, I wouldn't mind seeing a newer take on Blade Runner. You don't have to see it, you know.
Aye, we don't have to want it to be made either.

Guess it goes back to each of our "darlings" as it were. Personally, I could give a rats ass if they remade "Godfather". Couldn't care less, in fact would probably be fine with it cause Mobster flicks aren't my thing anyway.

But some films need a good long time before they get remade, especially if other NEW and not-yet-made material is available instead. Remake Jaws, **** you. Remake Blade Runner, no, **** you. :D:P

I just don't understand why one would want another Balde Runner, before they'd want a new version of other novels not yet made. Would seem natural to want new, not more Hollywood remake-rehash-recycle.

I love comic book movies, so we really can't discuss them.

I was talking remakes in general--sci fi, spy, action, drama--doesn't matter--some very good but dated movies benefit from a polishing up.

The point is--and again--I loved Blade Runner, but 30 years is 30 years--I'd LOVE to see what they could do with it. Yeah, remake-rehash-recycle. :O

And it's not that I WANT a Blade Runner remake at the expense of other worthy books/scripts, etc., but we're all at the whim of Hollywood--they can't afford to take a gamble when a sure thing is sitting there in front of them.

Would I prefer something completely new and fresh?

Of course, but they aren't doing that. They have no balls.

I don't doubt your love of B.R., and I can respect that we can disagree on a desire for a remake. I'm sure there are films I'd love to see remade others would find objectionable.

And I agree completely with the quoed portion above, thats 100% true, sadly.

Little know is that the movie "Soldier" with Kurt Russell is in the same universe as Blade Runner. It's a side sequel, if you will.

Sure they don't have the special effects and modern stunts and fight choreography but the Connery-Moore Bond films are my favs by a mile. I love the campiness, the girls, the villains. The modern bonds just seem like fairly regular spy/action movies. Growing up on the earlier one's greatly influences that opinion, obviously. Still, loved the Daniel Craig Casino Royale and looking forward to the new one. Skyfall?
