Kevin Bookout is already an accomplished two-sport athlete. Now he wants to make it three sports. And the Jets are giving him a chance.
Bookout, who played for Oklahomaís basketball team from 2002 to 2006 and who placed 10th in the shot put at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Sunday, is now attempting to make it in the NFL.
The Oklahoman reports that Bookout worked out for the Jets this week at their facilities in Florham Park, New Jersey.
Bookout hasnít played football since ninth grade, and thereís no word on what position the Jets see him playing. As a basketball player he was listed at 6-foot-8 and 270 pounds and had the build of a tight end, but he has reportedly bulked up to 320 pounds while focusing primarily on the shot put in recent years, so the Jets may see him as a lineman.
There arenít many 29-year-old rookies who havenít played football in 15 years who make an NFL roster, so Bookoutís odds would appear to be slim. Then again, there arenít many 6-foot-8, 320-pounders who are athletic enough to excel in basketball and strong enough to excel in the shot put. It doesnít hurt for the Jets to take a look, and it wouldnít be shocking to see them make room for him on their 90-man training camp roster.
