I never saw Mr Baseball. But I used to have a long commute home after my second job back when it was being filmed. Sometimes during the ride, I would try to tune the radio dial and find the station of the team that was playing the Yankees and listen to their broadcasters.
Anyway, I was listening to 760 WJR out of Detroit on the the last game of the season because Ernie Harwell, the Tigers' long time announcer had been unceremoniously let go and it was his last game with the Tigers. (They ended up bringing him back a couple of years later.)
I remember Ernie commenting that they were filming a movie that night. Mr Baseball with Tom Sellek.
Again I haven't seen the movie but apparently Sellek, in a Tiger's uniform, was facing Jack Morris, who was wearing a Yankee uniform.
For authenticity, they wanted Morris to throw hard fastballs down the middle and Sellek was supposed to get a hit.
Well, Sellek was having a hell of a time and after a long time, he finally hit a ball up the middle I think.
By far the most gripping movie I've seen, purely for its horribleness is this:
It is an absolute laugh riot. Watch it. I can simply not get over how cocaine-fueled the makers of this movie must have been - actors, directors, producers, camera men, crew, everyone must have been so drugged up that they could barely see. I imagine they all thought they were making some kind of groundbreaking art, something so important in the history of film that it would be talked about for generations. The result was such a train wreck that you can not look away.
