71 Year Old Badass Saves the Day!

    http://www.ijreview.com/2012/07/1074...internet-cafe/

There is video of the event if you click the link!

71-year-old Florida based concealed-weapons permit holder Samuel Williams has garnered quite a bit of attention and praise for courageously defending himself and other patrons at an Internet Café.

Just before 10pm on Friday, two masked men – one wielding a gun – entered the Palms Internet Café in Ocala, Florida. As Duwayne Henderson pointed his handgun at customers, his partner-in-crime Davis Dawkins was destroying a $1,200 computer screen. The men were likely in search of cash; Internet cafes, regulated by the state, offer casino-style games and deal mainly with cash payments.

Unfortunately for the two 19-year-old criminals – Henderson and Dawkins – the 71-year-old Williams pulled out a .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun, stood from his chair, bent down, and fired two shots at Henderson, who then tried to run.

According to The Gainesville Sun’s report of the surveillance video,

Williams takes several more steps toward the door and continues firing as Henderson and Dawkins fall over one another trying to exit the building. The two eventually run off screen.

Both men were shot by Williams. Their wounds were not life-threatening. Each was arrested hours later and charged with attempted armed robbery with a firearm and felony criminal mischief.”

Mary Beach, a patron in the café at the time of the shooting, said, “I think he is wonderful. If he wouldn’t have been there, there could have been some innocent people shot.”

Bill Gladson of the State Attorney’s Office for the 5th Judicial Circuit, in reference to his analysis of the surveillance videos, said, “Based on what I have seen and what I know at this time, I don’t anticipate filing any charges.”

Williams has a concealed-weapons permit, according to the Sheriff’s Office, and is protected by Florida law that allows a person “to use deadly force if he or she fears death or serious injury to themselves or others.”

If the 30 or so people that were in the Internet café weren’t fans of the Constitutional right to bear arms before the incident, I’m sure they are now. Who knows what those two 19-year-old clowns would have done if there weren’t a responsible gun owner there to save the day.

Watch the 71-year-old badass save the day in the video above.

I was concerned the last shot he fired after the perps were in full retreat and out the door would get him in trouble.

    Fantastic story..

It would have had a happier ending if he had packed something more powerful than a 380......

Interesting. Not taking anything away from this guy who saved quite a few lives......but is there anything in Florida law written to prevent vigilantism?

Obviously in this case, perhaps the Martin case...or the Texas guy that rightfully killed the guy molesting his daughter....a citizen taking the law into their own proverbial hands is protected (rightfully) under the law. But what checks does a state like Florida have to prevent someone from, say, listening to a scanner and responding to police calls on their own? Most states recognize that enforcement of the law via deadly force requires extensive training.

Now see what I mean in the Walking DIrty thread? Guy's well trained and likely a veteran of Viet Nam (of course I'm projecting NOW ). Using a gun is natural and he was never distracted; he waits until the perp turns his back; his movements are focused...even as it reached fever pitch (eejits falling out the door) dude is calm enough to fire shots at their feet (really projecting now).

How often does a concealed Weapons permit require re-certification? This should work against narcissism.

In general never, the permits generally all have expiration dates, but it just a case of paying the fee and renewing the permit.

Most defensive training courses teach you to find cover, he did not, and he only hit with 2 out 7 shots (this is normal), still most training includes that you only fire till the threat is gone, I could argue the last shot he made was not legit.

Of course I am a proponent of the idea that the 2nd amendment should be every ones concealed weapons permit and you should not have to undergo any training in order to defend your self.

That's crazy. I wouldn't trust 1/2 of the people out there to drive my car. But I have to trust that they now how to handle a firearm?

Think about it PK, Shouldn't everyone have the chance defend themselves regardless if they have had training or not, what if your beautiful GF/wife was being stalked, would you not want to give her a fighters chance to defend herself or would you have her wait till she went through 3 days of intensive training applied for a permit and wait another 90 days for it to arrive?

I understand your concerns, just that I don't want to be limited by what some Gomer may or may not do because they are untrained.

I do support all who work or play with firearms getting training, just like seat belt laws I don't think it should be mandated.

Yeah the 380 is a European caliber... basically a 9mm short. Also known as a 9mm kurz..

I prefer something with more knockdown power....

The .380 is not the most powerful, but it is so small and light weight that it makes a great concealed carry weapon, great for the warm Florida weather.

Another problem with a gun that small is that it isn't very accurate but yeah it is easy to conceal...

If I was your girlfriend, I'd want to conceal myself too.

Damned he didn't kill the scumbags. Oh but some mama would be missing a couple of possible Rhodes Scholars.

Those two got what was coming to them, but at the same time, that old dude scares me, lol. I don't know if I want 71 year olds firing off like that.

He clearly didn't disable either of them with any of those shots. What would have happened if they had automatic weapons and instead of turning tail and running when he opened fire, they turned and opened fire back on him and the rest of the people in there? He could have potentially made a dangerous situation even more dangerous and probably deadly.

He surprised them with gunfire. Very effective way to get people running. They weren't "contractors" working alongside US Forces; they were dip**** idiots that made no concession for someone shooting at them.
