LG is a "competition" between Slauson and Vlad

All you need to sort out this competition is watch tape of the Jets/Ravens game last year when Vlad stepped in at LG so Slauson could move to center.

Yeah....THAT worked out well. Vlad missed his assignment and Sanchez nearly got killed. The experiment was over as soon as it began.

They really want Vlad to succeed but let's be honest here, Slauson is gonna have to be re-signed this year or they'll need to sign/draft a new LG. Vlad is in over his head as an interior lineman in the NFL. We drafted a LT to play RT and LG. Poor draft choice.

1 game does not define a career. Lets hope Vlad made progress during the off season. Remember, in fairness to Ducasse, last year's lockout prevented any off season work with the coaches.

to be an interior lineman requires football IQ, which is not Vlad's strength.

When the Jets finally figure it out and Put S Heyer at guard and not tackle. I'm on the record he has a good shot of winning one of the starting guard positions on the Jets oline.

Any word where the Jets are playing him? Eventually they have to see he better suited playing inside than on an Island at tackle.

Players develop different... Dunno why some people can't get that through their heads. Despite seeing the same damn thing over and over throughout the league.

I can name a ton of players that were better than guys like Warren Sapp and Lawrence Timmons in their rookie years. In years 2 and 3, Sapp and Timmons were far beyond anything those guys could do.

I always considered Ducasse a bust. IMO any new O-linemen we bring in could potentially be an improvement over him. How long is it going to take the FO to finally realize that Ducasse will never be good and cut him??

If Vlad is competetive at ANY position on the OL this year then this represents a big step forward from where we thought we were with him.

Mark me down as <guardedly encouraged>

On the other hand we heard training camp stories about Vernon too...

Lets see what VLAD does this year. Fair minded fans are aware that VLAD was going to be a project but that he had enormous talent. No OTAs etc hurt him last year as it did our entire OL. Too many fans are so quick to dump on the guy and rush to judgement! Time to slow down a bit and smell the flowers! By the end of camp and the 4 preseason games we will know if VLAD is our new LG or if he is a failure. Slauson is very good but has his limitations. VLAD has more talent but no experience. That will soon change. If he does well I hope that you enjoy eating crow!

and you know this how? Are you for real? You must think that REX & T are stupid ! They scouted the guy and knew he was a project. His time to produce is upon us and people like you seem to think that he is lacking football IQ. Please tell us how you know this. Then call Woody Johnson and ask for T's job. Its obvious that you are better prepared for the Jets GM job since T has no football IQ either! He is afterall a bean counter! With you ate the helm we will surely never fan on a player! I am excited at the prospects.

Stephon Heyer should make this team as the swing tackle. they are playing him at left tackle behind DBrick but I agree he could play guard too. He's a possibly solid player.

As for Slauson, when Bill Callahan left his stock plunged. NFL is political.

that aside, it's fair to question if he is fully recovered from last year. What is his condition? too lazy to look it up but go back and read the description of what they said was wrong with him this offseason. I don't want to misquote the doctors but it was more than one injury.

the fact that he played through it is a testament to his toughness, he's a tough gritty dude... but these feats sometimes have a price to be paid.

If the coaching staff feels it's a competition than Vlad must be showing them something. As far as I'm concerned, as long as our O-Line is improving than bring on the change. Our O-Line became a weakness last season (didn't help that Mangold was lost for games) and we need to get that corrected.

Things change in a year. Vlad could have gotten better over that time, especially with Sporano in charge.

    And that was last year.

    Or did you miss that?
