Thread: Early Roster

  1. #1

    Early Roster

QB - 3 Sanchez, Tebow, Mcelroy
RB - 3 Greene, Mcknight, Powell
    FB - 1 Connor
WR 5 - tone, kerley, chaz, hill, turner
    TE 3 - Keller, cumberland, ?
Oline 8 - Brick, slauson, mangold, moore, hunter, 3-4 backups?

    OFFENSE - 22

DL 6 - Pouha, devito, coples, wilkerson, ellis, dixon
LB 8- pace, BT, bart, harris, demario, maybin, sapp, bellore
DB 9 - revis, cro, wilson, bell, landry, bush, smith, lancaster, allen

    DEFENSE - 23 so far

SP 3 - kicker, punter, LS

There are 48 guys listed above....the only real question mark is bellore but he is an excellent special teams player. The biggest area of question is Oline where we need to find backups between Caleb S., Howard, Otah (maybe), vlad etc.

Then we get to the defense where allen is a ? but i hope he makes it. Smith is obviously too slow to play a lot at safety, but knows our scheme and is a good special teams player.

So with what we have above we have 5 or so spots to fill in....with guys like gangway, Dowtin (who i think will have a big preseason), another WR, etc.

Just wanted to see what you guys think so far.....

Not saying it is perfection as I wrote it on an iphone notes section but what players names are mis-spelled? Just so i know...

And its not CERTAIN cuts its a final 7 just showing that there ARE 60 legit players fighting for 53 spots. I am not a fortune teller just speculating and wanted to see what others thought...

Exempt for Hayden Smith is also a nice little contract loophole that Tanny has found that allows us to stash him for up to 3 years, he DOES NOT count as a player on the practice squad if carried there, AND his salary lowers to a maximum of 330K for up to all 3 years...

EDITED NOTE- That Smith loophole ALSO blocks him from ALL OTHER 31 teams as long as his contract is on the books... It really is a great way to develope a player in an old school fashion, that over-seas address may be just what gives him the right time to develope on HIS clock...

I think we'll carry 5 safeties. Allen makes the team. We'll have to choose between Powell, and Ganaway unless we cut Conner. You realize you have Ganaway on the practice squad and the active roster? Robert Griffin goes on ir, or practice squad. I'd move Baker from TE to FB/H-back, and sign a blocking TE before the season.

I think the terminator will be cut in favor of Gannaway. Antonio Allen makes the team. White makes it over Turner.

Turner (and Cb Lankster) got 2 years deals this off-season, I take that as a little slight tip of the hand by the FO. Not that they would be un-cuttable I doubt its big money to move but regardless with his rapport with Sanchez I just dont see him getting axed. (outside of a horrible pre-season)

The WR Ganaway I have on P.S. The RB Ganaway I have on active 53.

    J. White I also like ALOT but I think he is your classic stash and get healthy/ready for 2013. Much like what you seem to have in mind with R. Griffin.

    A. Allen (for my scenario) I PRAY doesnt get pouched because I love the potential and even more were we got him. I just find it hard with J. Bush playing the Free and Rex working Smith, Landry, and Bell (whom I am excited for) into the Strong/Hybrid spot, will there be the time for Allen to shine?

    J. Baker I love the idea but I kind of already view him as just that a hybrid TE/FB/HB and between him and Tebow running the wildcat I chose to carry an extra OL and only go with 24 on D.

    J. Connor I think is too much of a "Rex Guy" to not get ONE MORE year.

LOVE the idea of bringing in a vet. TE... Anthony Fasano as a cap casualty or low rounder is my pipe dream...

I think theres a good chance Dowtin makes the roster over McIntyre. Given what I have read about his athleticism and "game day ability" I think Dowtin has a chance to excel in preseason games vs players that wont be making rosters. Also, with his speed, he should be a excellent special teams player (if he puts in the effort/work which was his problem area at Georgia). I think he will be to tough to stash on the practice squad given his ability.....and a guy like McIntyre is never gonna be a make or break player, dowtin could eventually be a good NFL starter.

I actually mentioned this when they drafted Gannaway. He has the size. IF he can block well he would make a nice FB, he can run AND catch the ball. It would be one more thing for the defense to have to account for. Connor offers none of those things.

    QB: 3
    Sanchez, Tebow, McElroy

    RB: 4
    Greene, Powell, McKnight, Ganaway

    FB: 1
    Connor

    TE: 3
    Keller, Cumberland, Baker

    WR: 5
    Holmes, Hill, Kerley, Schillens, Turner

    OL: 9

Ferguson, Ducasse (I hope he wins the job, and he'll get every chance), Mangold, Moore, Otah (ditto)
Hunter, Slauson, Schlauderaff, Howard (competing with Kroul and Griffin for the last OL spott)

    Total Offense: 25

    DL: 6
Coples, DeVito, Pouha, Wilkerson, Dixon, Ellis (this is light for a 4-3, but only because so many of our LBs can drop down to DE if needed; all of the above players could see time at DT with Pace, Maybin, Thomas, or Sapp on the line at DE, which will allow the team to keep the DL fresh even without a deeper rotation)

    LB: 9
Pace, Harris, Scott, Thomas, Maybin, Davis, Sapp, McIntyre, Bellore

    CB: 5
Revis, Cromartie, Wilson, Lankster, Trufant (competing with Steed and Posey for the last spot)

    S: 5
    Landry, Bell, Smith, Bush, Allen

    Total Defense: 25

    ST:
    Kicker: Folk
    P: Conley
LS: Purdum (too bad Kroul can't LS)

    Practice Squad: 9
    Hayden Smith (exempt)
    Robert Griffin
    Ryan Steed
    Marcus Dowtin
    Brett Roy
    Damon Harrison
    Jordan White

What is this loophole of which you speak?

    If true, this is outstanding.
