Our secondary is going to be very good this year. Finally have some legit safeties to go with our excellent cornerbacks.

Talking CAN'T WAIT vs Wait and See.....

=I am trying to dampen my excitement towards Sapp and Powell (especially Sapp) because each report is speaking glowingly of them. The one thing that has stopped the Jets from being just a monster D the last few years is suspect safeties and non play making olb's If Sapp and Maybin continue with their play this D could be scarey good.

... Wow, wouldn't it be great if Sapp was even better than advertised. Some draft scouts saw his potential at Clemson and rated him very highly. Powell needs to step up this year. so far , so good at Camp.
... Always High Hopes this time of year.LOL Cant wait till the first pre-season game. Tebow to Hill for 80 yards to silence the critics.!

    Agreed 100%.

Seems like Jets will have a serious pass rush this year and D could be elite.

Sanchez's progress in the tailor made O sounds very encouraging indeed.

Finally settled in at home here's some answers to questions:

    - In the three days I saw Maybin is being used most of the time as a DE
in a 4 man line of Maybin, Wilkerson, Coples & Pace. In fewer reps he
was standing up as an OLB and still bringing pressure. He didn't seem
to be a liability in run defense

    - As far as the QB snaps Sanchez is getting the most followed by Tebow
and McElroy. Simms isn't getting any, I wonder if they plan on hiding him
    on the practice squad

    - Coples development has been good. In 11 on 11 they are moving him
between 3 positions 3-4 DE, 4-3 DE & 4-3 DT. His talent flashes in the
DLine / OLine drills as he absorbs his responsibilities in the regular defense
the "media" will take more notice

    - One thing that I didn't mention about Sanchez is his passes are much
more accurate. There are very few passes that are on the wrong shoulder
of a WR or behind them

    KRL Reports:
    Detailed, accurate, unbiased.

Sad that so many in the media don't aspire to these goals.

    Thanks KRL!!!!

This is great to hear. Really hope they stay healthy. Both of them in place of Smith and Leonhard could be a huge difference to this defense. Been the weak link for way too long.

He didn't play because he had 3 more experienced players in front of him and also because most rookies don't contribute there first year, especially RBs as there is a huge learning curve to picking up NFL blitzes. Not because he wasn't a good player.

Now I not holding out hope that we have the next arian foster here (another RB that played sparingly his first year), but hopefully powell worked hard, learned how to be a pro and can now step in and be successful if needed.
THIS When are we as fans going to stop being so quick to label someone a bust or a scrub etc....? The kid never really got much a chance to show what he could do. Several of us have also been very excited about what Sapp could possibly bring to the table and all we heard was the guy was a bum, yada, yada, yada. Of course he has yet to play in a real game but he brings a skill set that this defense has been sorely missing and in this system he could really shine.

I always was under the impression that Bell was glacially slow in coverage. Glad to hear that isn't necessarily the case.

    - Maybin was his normal disruptive self with pressures & sacks. Westhoff is
even using him on special teams now
I'm so gun-shy about getting aside when it comes to these two and what they could provide the defense. But I have to admit, I'm starting to buy in.

Great point. From what I read, there were a couple of instances of that yesterday (1-7) as well.

No why in the hell would the OC go ahead and do something like that?

If he's able to make things happen by doing that, awesome. If not, uh-oh.

Great, great job, KRL. Wish you could report from there the whole month.

Maybin, Sapp, Powell, Lankster -- those are the names off the top of my head that seem to be receiving the most CONSISTENT positive press.

I'm just as thrilled as anyone else to hear these names, but I would assume (with the exception of Maybin) that these players aren't excelling against first team opposition.

Doesn't mean I'm not happy to hear it (especially multiple times), but it'll understandably be tougher for them to shine on the big stage . . .

I agree, although Ellis Lankster made a couple of nice plays with the first unit today.

Revis blurted in his presser with Stephen A that Hill has to improve. How is he looking so far?,

Good stuff KRL!! Always look foward to your write ups.

Few questions - Where are they linning up Coples? Have they been putting him in different spots? Are they using him to rush the passer at all?

Of course he has to improve, he's only a rookie... In what type of context did Revis state Hill must improve? Curious to hear that conversation/statement...

In the first practice Hill beat Revis for a 40 yard reception. Hill also knocked Revis on his ass on a running play. No doubt the kid has to improve, but Revis has by no means dominated the kid.

Revis went after Braylon when he was here, especially in 2010. I hope that playing against Revis pays off for Hill. I believe it will.
