What the hell is in there?

Any chance of a kickass playbook for the offense in there?

'Do not open until 2012': The secret of mysterious parcel wrapped in 1912 is unveiled in Norwegian town

A mysterious package dated 100 years ago will finally be opened after generations in a small Norwegian town heeded to the instructions written on the wrapping: ‘To be opened in 2012’.
The parcel was sealed in 1912 and left in the care of the council in Otta, a town 180 miles north of Oslo, with the instructions for it not to be touched for a century.

After surviving two world wars and years in bank vaults, archives and on display behind glass the contents will be revealed at a ceremony tomorrow night.

The parcel was left in the council's care in 1920 by Johan Nygaard, a former chairman of Sel council in Otta, who had wrapped and sealed it eight years earlier on the anniversary of the legendary Battle of Kringen.
The battle stood in Otta in 1612 between local peasants and Scottish mercenary soldiers on their way through the Norwegian woods to enlist to fight in the Swedish army during Kalmar War between Denmark-Norway and Sweden.
Miraculously the Norwegian peasants won and it is believed that the contents of the package may have some connection to the battle 400 years ago.

Although it has spent the last few years safely stored on display at the local museum, it has been forgotten a few times over the years and was nearly lost for good in the fifties during a renovation at the local council and had to be rescued from the tip.

Locals have been pondering and guessing the contents of the paper package for a hundred years – literally - and the ceremony is the talk of the town.

Kjell Voldheim, a registrar at the local museum, is one of two people who will open the mysterious parcel.

‘We have no idea what could be inside. It is going to be so exciting!,' he told Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang. 'We have thought a lot about what it might be.'
‘It could be historical documents, or maybe the Blue Star Diamond from the Titanic which sank in 1912,’ he said.
‘Although the council is probably hoping it is a bunch of oil shares - which would help them,’ he laughs.
The package is 3.5 inches thick and weighs 0.7lbs and is described by Mr Voldheim as heavy and wrapped in a thick material.

The head of Sel council, Dag-Erik Pryhn said he is looking forward to discover what the package contains and he guarantees that the package has remained unopened for 100 years.
He told Verdens Gang he believes Mr Nygaard put in a lot of thought into assembling the contents of the mysterious package – whatever it may be.
‘The way it was left for us indicates that he considered the content to be of great value for future generations’, Pryhn said.
'I'm very excited, this is something which will only happen once in a lifetime.'
The opening ceremony will be broadcast live at 7pm GMT on Verdens Gang Online.

I'm guessing it's a wallet. And inside that wallet is a condom.

Astoundingly, it will be revealed that Bonne Homme and 32's elevation to mod--as well as Ruby 2's myriad snubbings--are all integral parts of the one chance we have to survive the anticipated 2012 cataclysm.

That said, it's going to be quite frightening when this parcel unleashes a previously thought quarantined strain of TB.

What the hell do these momos think is going to be in there? Something really insightful because they were successfully trolled 100 years ago? I have an idea, I'm going to send a letter in the same fashion to some world museum, "DO NOT OPEN until 2112! Life's mystery to eternal happiness inside. If opened earlier the world will end." Inside the contents of the message will be a link to the Hero For The Hampur thread which at that point will have been archived in the anals of historectomy.

Are you gonna post an update when it's revealed? Or is this a "how many dummies can I leave hanging" post. For the record, I'll count as one

    Pretty anticlimactic. No play book.

Norway's 100-Year-Old Mystery Package Opened: Guess What Was Inside

Well, as anticipated, the 100-year-old mystery package opened today in Norway didn’t hold*the Blue Star diamond that was lost when the Titanic sunk in 1912. Neither did it contain the big knife or pea suggested as possibilities by Norwegian schoolchildren. What it did contain, however, is a trove of curiae, a slice of history and a healthy dose of delightful anticipation.

In front of a crowd that included Princess Astrid of Norway, the mayor of Norway’s Sel municipality (wearing a dashing necklace, I might add) cut the ropes on the package, which was supposedly sealed in 1912 and delivered to the town of Otta’s mayor in the mid-to-late 1920s. Curators from the Gudbrandsdal museum then took the reins, unwrapping the brown paper package to see what was inside.

Inside the package? Surprise! Another package! Inside that, much to my dismay, was not an increasingly small series of packages leading to a pea. Instead, the interior package contained a number of fabrics in the color of Norway’s flag – “from the King,” said one of the package openers. Under the fabric the curators found notebooks, newspapers, a letter, a small drawing, some community council papers and other bits of paper.

Among the newspapers were clippings from 1914 and 1919, suggesting that perhaps the package had been added to after it was originally assembled in 1912. Still, the curators confirmed that the package contents were indeed from the first two decades of the twentieth century.

“This is like gold to us museum folks,” announced the female opener, speaking in English.

“Well, the package didn’t solve our financial problems,” said Sel mayor Dag Erik Pryhn, alluding to the ancient stock certificates some hoped the package would contain. “But our history got richer.”

For better or for worse, the unveiling came as part of the 400th celebration of a battle in which the townspeople of Otta defeated Scottish soldiers hired by Sweden during its war against Denmark-Norway. As a result, the package caretakers were ushered off stage to make way for more celebration and entertainment, asked kindly to return to the stage later with a summary of what its contents reveal.

And so, after 100 years, we’re forced to wait a little longer to find out just what may lie inside. If the dates on the newspapers are any indication, as @seanhfitz suggests, they just may hold instructions for building a time machine!

Update: The curators returned to the stage without the secret for time travel. Instead, the package contents seem to be primarily concerned with the construction of a monument to celebrate the victory in 1612. The notebooks and newspapers contain ledgers and accounts of donations given to fund the memorial.

“It’s interesting to see how small amount of money was given,” said one of the museum curators. “Some people are giving half a dollar and some are giving a dollar.”

One of the newspapers, from August 1, 1914, mentioned that the people of Sel were “afraid the money was going to be used for something else.” Another paper contained the lyrics to an old popular song that is now used as a march in Norway.

The curators pledged to take the papers back to the*Gudbrandsdal museum, where they will be put on display in glass cases, for all to see.
