    Ravens cut Billy Cundiff
Posted by Michael David Smith on August 26, 2012, 12:55 PM EDT
Ravens' Cundiff follows through on a field goal against the Texans in Baltimore Reuters

The kicker whose missed field goal at the end of the AFC Championship Game ended the Ravensí 2011 season will not return to the Ravens for the 2012 season.

Billy Cundiff has been released by the Ravens, ESPNís Adam Schefter reports.

Although Cundiff was a Pro Bowler in 2010 and, signed a five-year contract in 2011 and has been a very good kicker for much of his time in Baltimore, this move doesnít come as a surprise. Undrafted rookie kicker Justin Tucker has looked good in training camp and the preseason, and cutting Cundiff saves the Ravens about $1.2 million in cap space.

Some teams may show interest in the 32-year-old Cundiff as a free agent, but that AFC Championship Game-ending miss will be fresh in many teamsí minds, and so will the fact that Cundiff has made only one of his last ten field goal attempts from 50 yards and beyond. Cundiff has fallen a long way since playing in the Pro Bowl a year and a half ago.

I really want to wait for a RT. Cundiff is nice, but will signing him have any kind of impact on being able to sign a RT cap-wise?

He is better than Folk, he doesn't allow any returns, would bring him in for his kickoffs alone.

From what I'm reading both Folk and Brown have had excellent camps. Doubtful they would be interested in Cundiff.

any RT we're going to pick up at this point probably won't be very high priced.

    lol.

our kicking and punting are going to have to be spot-on if this is going to work. I really don't trust Folk.

Folk is okay, but I think Cundiff would be upgrade. Do it.

I don't understand our (organization and fans) obsession with getting rid of Folk. He's kicked pretty well for us, Westhoff fixed his mechanical issues and every time the Jets bring in another kicker to "compete" with him (aka they really want somebody to take his job), he beats them out. Unless we can acquire an elite kicker, I see no reason to get rid of him. Last time we did a similar thing, our former punter won a superbowl and looked pretty good doing it.

Folk misses too many 35 yd and less FG's, you have to be 97-98% on those, I remember two awful misses vs NE, in the playoff game and on the opening drive last year.

I agree that he needs to hit such kicks. I just don't want to replace him with somebody else who misses kicks too. Again, my comments are general. Not specifically directed at Cundiff.

Edit: along your point, Cundiff was 1/4 in December from 30-49 last year.

He's made 1 out of his last 10 50+ yard attempts according to PFT.

    No thank you
