Speaking of that... look at this video of Smith. Look how late he is moving on the snap... its almost as though he is in some post-concussive fog. Hope that was an isolated incident because as bad as Wayne has been, I have never seen him THIS bad.

Or the far more reasonable and likely explanation was he forgot the snap count.

Whoa. This is a terrible misunderstanding of the contract. His cap hit IF THE JETS KEEP HIM. The Jets aren't keeping him next year, this is a 1 year/ $4M deal.

$2.55M was a sunk cost. The Jets paid $1.5M for a below average to bad (but young) OT. Maybe the Jets could have found someone else for OL depth, but who knows, anyone the Jets signed would have cost, at a minimum, about $900,000 and probbaly wouldn't have been cut until Friday.

No one is saying Jason Smith is good, but it's slim pickings this time of year, Jason Smith is a guy they got at $600,000 over the vet minimum.

that's a good way of looking at it. clearly, the jets will be looking to add RT depth next offseason, whether in FA or the draft or both. they just need to get thru this season and then they can fix RT. they fixed the dline and safety so they won't have to draft those positions next year. should be a fun offensive draft, hopefully.

maybe howard will pan out, he has looked pretty decent so far with almost zero experience. who knows, he could be a starter for the next 5yrs. I agree they still should add a RT in the offseason for more depth, since smith will likely only be here for 1yr.
