gaaawd. Gates? Of all the big upside guys out there, we bring in lesser Clowney?

Edmund Gates couldn't keep a spot on the worst WR corps league. Why would he stick on the 2nd worst?

Wouldn't surprise me he is added to active roster in a few weeks and move someone else to PS.

He is realistically about 3 weeks away from being game ready.

I hope so. I dont like having both pace and thomas out in coverage. They look pretty slow.

Rotoworld reports Gates was struggling to pick up the new Miami offense. But he already knows Sparano's offense so there shouldn't be that problem here. And the guy brings 4.37 speed which is a plus. Always good to have a few burners on the roster.

#Jets awarded speedy WR Clyde Gates from Dolphins: source
Pre 2011 Draft the Jets brought Gates in for a visit..Must like him along with Sparano...Can he return kicks?

With less than two weeks before the NFL draft, the Jets have brought 25 prospects for visits to their Florham Park facility, according to team announcements. Of the two dozen, 16 are defensive players, an indication this could be a defensive-minded draft -- which, of course, would shock no one.

More visitors could be on the way. Each team is allowed 30 non-local visits.

UPDATE: DT Corey Liuget (Illinois) also visited, sources said. His name wasn't on the list released by the Jets.

Here's a breakdown by position (potential first rounders are linked):

    Running back: Bilal Powell (Louisville)

Wide receiver: Randall Cobb (Kentucky), Edmond Gates (Abilene Christian), Denarius Moore (Tennessee),

    Tight end: Martell Webb (Michigan),

Offensive tackle: Gabe Carimi (Wisconsin), Ray Dominguez (Arkansas), Jah Reid (Central Florida),

    Center: Brandon Fusco (Slippery Rock)

Defensive tackle: Phil Taylor (Baylor), Kendrick Ellis (Hampton), Sione Fua (Stanford)

    Defensive end: Muhammad Wilkerson (Temple).

Outside linebacker: Ryan Kerrigan (Purdue), Akeem Ayers (UCLA), Justin Houston (Georgia), Sam Acho (Texas), Dontay Moch (Nevada)

Inside linebacker: Martez Wilson (Illinois), Elijah "Peanut" Joseph (Temple), Jeff Tarpinian (Iowa)

    Safety: Jaiquawn Jarrett (Temple),

Cornerback: Jimmy Smith (Colorado), Chykie Brown (Texas), Josh Thomas (Buffalo),

didn't see this one coming with Richardson being cut...Richardson resigned after week 1?

I really liked Dixon and his pass rush potential...ALittle baffling

Wow! Releasing Dixon is a surprising move. Still haven't heard who was cut for Gates.

With Dixon gone, looks like Damon Harrison could stick. As I wrote yesterday, money a factor in some moves. Dixon was due 540k.

The irony is that this player Aaituii is a player Sparano knows well and was a rotation player last year. From the looks of it, it's a good depth pick-up.
Why do we need more defensive lineman? Answer is we don't. I liked Gates in the draft last year, but I though we needed a blocking TE? Instead we bring in a guy that got cut because he can block. Good.

The Dixon release is very surprising

Two things come to mind, is Pou'ha ok, because with Aaitui, and keeping Harrison, that is 4 NT/DT's on roster to go with Pou'ha and Ellis.

Or, does Aaittui have versatility to play DE in 3-4, he has size comparable to Dixon and Wilkerson, where Harrison is more like Ellis.

Gates move is interesting, want to back and watch Miami pre-season games, to look at both players, Gates and Aaitui.

The TE pick-up is interesting, his talent seems to suggest he is a Josh Baker clone.
