Average works after the punting the Jets have had

Malone doesn't appear to be very good, but I guess Westhoff sees something there.

Changing RTs, cutting the Punter. The Jets must think it is March.

Malone was punting for San Diego this preseason. He was not going to beat out Scifres, but he seemed to put up decent numbers. Still, I'm very surprised they didn't sign McBriar. That would have seemed to be a no-brainer. Maybe we'll see him later. He may need more time to heal up.

If he's a vested veteran wouldn't his salary be guaranteed for the season if they signed him this week?

Maybe this is a 1 week audition for Malone?

Can confirm the #Jets signed former Chargers P Robert Malone, as reported by Newsday.

    Seriously.

I trust that the Jets would only cut Conley and sign Malone if they think it's an upgrade. But I have to admit, it doesn't inspire a ton of confidence when we're moving parts (even if it's just a punter) in the week leading up to the first game.

I dunno. Maybe check out Weatherford's stats with the Jets and compare them to Conley. They're essentially the same guy, below-average to average JAGs.

I hope this is the case. I can't imagine going with a relative unknown like Malone 5 days before the start of the season with the intention of him being our punter the entire season.

I hope they are just waiting until after week 1 for McBriar.

Can't say I'm overly impressed with his numbers.

Jets have signed ex-Chargers punter Robert Malone, per source. Malone had a 44.8 average (26th in NFL) & 39.9 net avg (19th) in preseason

I wouldn't make too much or too little about the Net avg..We know PS STs are a train wreck

    IDK.

In 2010 with Tampa Bay, he was 28th in the NFL (among punters with at least 50 punts) in gross average and 24th in net average.

I don't see the attraction here.

He was signed as a FA this offseason by Philly. How much could he possibly make that would warrant waiting until after week 1? If this is the case, I hope it doesn't cost us a W to save a few bucks, especially since we're under the cap.

of his 52 punts that season 17 were inside the 20..Might have played into that net avg?

Only 22 of the 52 were returned...

Shane Lechler will be 37 next year he a freeagent. Raiders aren't paying four million dollars when they have marquette King. Good punters can kick well into their forties.
