Jets allowed Weatherford to leave because they wanted to save money at the position...

Unfortunate but also important in a capped league. Also need to throw in the fact that he doesn't seem to be the best locker room guy. Erik Ainge had problems on top of problems and mentioned that Weatherford was one of his best friends on the team. Then you have the Giants video as well.

Averaged 44.8 on 20 punts in the preseason. Upgrade, I guess.

This is penny wise, look at the good teams they have dependable field goal kickers and punters. The Jets are the type of team that will play in lower scoring games then most therefore they need a punter who can change field position and nail a team inside their 20.

Well I guess you could have spent a 3rd round pick on Bryan Anger. How many elite punters ever hit the market? None.

Andy Lee, Lechler, Scifres, Fields, et al are never free agents. Teams find a gem and keep them forever. Weatherford is only average.
