Thread: Sanchez for Rivers: What would it take?

I think Eli's dad would intervene and forbid Rivers to play for the Jets

no kidding, I'm stunned by what I'm reading. Yeah, a qb with a career 2:1 TD:int ratio, 94.8 rating (with multiple years over 100, multiple pro-bowls, 30+td, 4,000 yd seasons) is equal to suckchez?!?!?!?

    this is freaking ludicrous.

I've been saying for weeks we should make a run for him.

His first two years he did not even play. He has been a starter for 7 seasons.

My point was that people considered his 2011 season a very bad year for him and he has faced a ton of criticism.

I would love to have a QB that 27 TDs/4600 yds is a "bad year".

As a college QB , Rivers was great BUT he disappeared in big games. Not surprised he hasnt been a big playoff winner. hate it but not surprised.

I watched him at NC State. Heck...they sell his college jersey here still. he was big.

BUT.... he aint the Jets answer. Maybe Favre?

If we could simply GIVE Mark Sanchez and his contract away, for free, with zero compensation, it would be both the best move ever in the history of the franchise, as well as the stupidest move EVER for the team that took him off our hands.

Mark will be a Jet next year. Embrace the suckage, and let it make you a better person.

    Worse.

The loser of the SB would be the equivalent of getting the Silver.

Mark actually "won" the Bronze twice.

McKayla actually was more successful than Mark. Sad.

Maybe if you put down the crack pipe and read what I wrote, you'd have a better response.

What would it take? I said Sanchez and a 3 plus a player.

    What do you think?

Rivers is a tough SOB & likes to scrap!
    That's what the Jets need.

Yep,,He'd make everyone around him better too!!

It's still hard to believe that the Chargers would move him. He probably could use a change of scenery but no way would they want Sanchez in return. Mark really doesn't have much trade value right now, the best you could get for him is probably similar to what Seattle just got for Tarvaris Jackson, low round pick by a team looking for a backup QB.

Especially with that asinine contract # he commands next year.

What a ****ing quandary this has developed into.

And provided Rivers can get back to his 2010 form, that's exactly what he would do.

Those doubting him based on '11 and the start to this season are entitled, but this is a guy who got it done in a big way with talent that's not much stronger than the Jets have today. Look at the 2010 roster - Jackson was holding out for most of the year, and Gates & Floyd were banged up. With no real steady weapons other than Sproles coming out of the backfield, he still threw for almost 5,000.

If the Chargers miss the playoffs this year and the new HC takes it out on Rivers, I'd love to see the Jets make a play with a 2 or 3-year deal. Holmes, Kerley, Keller (if re-upped) and Hill in year 2 would be on par with any corps he's had in a pretty good career.

He's really accurate with his short throws & has a strange quick shotput release.
You have to be able to make those throws in todays NFL, the YAC they sometimes generate is amazing.
Rivers has a good quick short motion which would be really helpful vs Pats crappy pass rush.
As fans we wouldn't know how to react to high % short thrower.
Rivers + Jets & another draft & Scott/Pace contracts gone would make the Jets AFC East contenders.
    That's a fact
If you don't think that Rivers throwing to Holmes/Hill/Kerley/Keller would be successful you haven't been watching football. Rivers loves throwing to the tightend.
Imagine Keller being hit in stride, that would be a 1st.

It sucks, but we might as well forget about Sanchez being trade bait. Nobody will want this guy. The question is, can the Jets maneuver around the cap and carry another legit QB while keeping Sanchez for one more season?

I'm no expert on cap management, but I think there are some options out there (extend Cromartie, cut Pouha) that would make it possible.

Holmes would be smiling ear to ear if he got the news the Jets traded Sanchez & signed Rivers.
