The New York Jets have signed veteran wide receiver Jason Hill and have waived rookie safety Antonio Allen. The announcements were made by general manager Mike Tannenbaum.

Hill (6'0", 202) entered the NFL as a third-round draft choice of San Francisco in 2007. He was waived by the 49ers on Nov. 16, 2010, and claimed off waivers by Jacksonville, for which he played from 2010-11. He signed with the Jets on Oct. 3 and caught two passes for 15 yards and a touchdown in three games before he was released on Oct. 27. In his six NFL seasons, Hill has played in 53 games, collecting 78 receptions for 1,043 yards and nine touchdowns.

Allen (6'1", 210) was a seventh-round choice by the Jets in this year's NFL Draft. He was waived following the preseason on Sept. 1 before being signed to the practice squad the next day. He played in three games after he was signed from the practice squad on Oct. 12 and contributed two tackles, a sack and a special-teams fumble recovery.

They'll sign Allen back to the PS

Like Allen, but you could argue that Hill brings more to the table for this team.

Hopefully this means Josh Bush is ready to take all of Allen's snaps and then some. Allen was toast in coverage.

Another late pick.... Down the drain. To bring in a vet released by other teams.

More empirical evidence of Rex and Tannys absolute inability to judge talent at the college level...let alone develop it.

proof that Tanny needs input and Mangini helped him, Rex simply can't.

Almost half the NFL is 6 th round or worse.

All picks matter. the Giants in 2007 had 6 rookie starters that year.

I guess you like the formula of re signing released players.

OK.... SB teams don't build that way. But if you like it, good for you.

    Allen was playing well.

    This is stupid. Dumb move.

The guy had some rookie miscues but what a terrible tradeoff. What the hell do you need to sign receivers for when your QB is terrible????

They need a 5th WR, and would rather develop Allen on the PS

I have no problem with that at all

You'll see Sapp signed this week to the roster, and all of a sudden with Davis, Dowtin, Sapp we just got younger at LB

Jason Hill?? How about a real receiver??

  15. #15
Priceless. When he was signed a month+ ago people here were all 'who? He sucks?' Then the Jets release him a couple of weeks ago and people here were Ll up in arms 'Tanny sux..etc'

And now we are back to Hill sux. Only on JI

Your premise was that a 7th rounder is no big deal. You and Tanny must be related.

53 men.... If in 7 years you had 4 picks every year make the team, the other half ofnthenteam would be UDFA or such. POINT IS....all picks matter and the ability to evaluate and develop talent are traits of SB winners but not the JETS.

Lets be honest if Tanny could have traded some of those late rounder he would have. To him they are nothing to start. He could get Brady in the 6th and cut him the next day because he was only a 6th.
