Defensive end Jason Babin, who was released Tuesday by the Philadelphia Eagles, was claimed on Wednesday by the Jacksonville Jaguars, a team source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Two-time Pro Bowl defensive end's release was the first major roster move for the Eagles, who lost seven straight games.

Babin had just 5.5 sacks after recording 18 last year. He signed a five-year, $28 million deal last summer after going to his first Pro Bowl with Tennessee following the 2010 season.

Eagles coach Andy Reid said the Eagles cut Babin to give more playing time to younger players.

This really needed its own thread? He's not exactly Reggie White in his prime, and he's going to the lowliest franchise there is.

Doubt it. Dude's gone down hill this year.

This is a great move, this is a team that was one crucial move away from contending, I really respect that organization for sending the message that they are going all-in to win it now.

Its amazing they're taking on his salary when they're going nowhere.

If they thought they could trade him OK....
Maybe they don't know the trade deadline has past

for 1 1/2 mill you get him on trial for the rest of the year, his deal over the next 3 years is less than 5 per, keep him next year but let him go in 2014 when he is 33.

and why the problem with the jets is not the overall D, the team could use a pass rush boost.

Replace the third J with an F in this post and we have a deal.

You are absolutely right. Babin is an actual pass rusher and 3 years at around $5 mil per was very reasonable.

But hey, this is the site where all free agents or available players suck and you're a retard if you want them but then we turn around and complain about losers like Chaz Schilens and Calvin Pace not being able to make plays.

It is called their coach is panicking because he hasn't made one good move all year. He is 2-9 with 3 OT losses. He figures getting a pass rusher may get him a win. vs us.

That may be true. But then again, it's no longer a strength either.
