Survivors of Hurricane Sandy Success Stories

    My Prepper thread.

I was interested in any stories some may like to share on how they survived the hurricane. Things like, thank god I had extra batteries, Thanks to my community/neighbors I did not starve, or I am glad I kept my bar fully stocked.

Did any one learn anything about how to better endure an event like Sandy in the future. Things like making sure you kept your generator serviced and ready to go, having emergency drinking water on hand, storing up on Halloween candy was a good thing, was glad they had a plan for when they were separated from love ones.

So what would you do the same in preparation of the next event, or what would you do different. What have you done to prepare.

Also I understand that many will never be made whole again due to Sandy and for many more the journey to becoming whole is a long ongoing process, my sincere condolences to all those affected.

I bought a crapload of actual firewood after you told me Duraflame logs were useless for heat. You were right, thank you.

I also bought several LED flashlights. I'm glad I have them now for next time.

I had the foresight to load my iPad up with porn the day before.

    What do I win?

I planted a tree when my son was born 13 years ago. Sandy blew it down. That sucked, but it's nothing at all compared to what happened to so many of my neighbors. We were one of like 2% of the houses in my whole town that did not lose power or cable at all...most were out almost 2 weeks. So my older son (16) had like 11 of his friends (girls and guys) living here and sleeping over for more than a week, because some of them had no power and the rest of them had their houses pretty much destroyed by the surge. Who knows what kind of friggin hormone fueled orgies these little bastids had while I was riding the Calcutta local to NYC and back. The weed I confiscated from my son 6 months ago and hid in my sock drawer for safe keeping (I'm getting rid of it slowly) looks like someone peeled off a big part of the bud. And I'm pretty sure I had more booze hidden in my not-so-hidden booze hiding place.

    Sorry, was there a question?

I got hit a year before Sandy for being without power, so I was prepared with flashlights, candles, firewood. My house has natural gas, and municipal H2O, so we're in a pretty good position. Full tank of gas in the car, so if we were **** put of luck, we could drive 300+ miles to a town with power, food, and a hotel.

I'm getting a generator next time.
I definitely don't need firewood anytime soon though.

I have a sealable hearth; I can burn wet wood in it once the fire's hot.
