Question, I know we have at least 1 person here who knows how these things work.

When it comes to California's Prop 8, that bans same-sex marriage in California, any possibility they apply their ruling more broadly to all states and not just California?

Marriage by not being defined in the Constitution has always been the jurisdiction of the individual States...

This might actually be the major reason why Scotus may find the so called Defense of Marraige act not Constitutional

    Excellent, and long overdue.

Hopefully the find that homosexual union is protected, and this issue is finally settled and done.

There are over 1,000 federal benefits that are available to married couples. Not state benefits, federal. Because of DOMA, gay couples who got married in NY over the last year can not receive those benefits because they are gay. That's the definition discrimination. That's the case against DOMA.

Whats at stake most is money.

When (not if, but when) DOMA is overturned and Gay Marriage enshried as an equal Civil Right, the costs to the Government and Employers in lost taxes (Govt.) and added benefits (Govt. and Private) is going to be pretty huge.

Thats not a reason to say no to equality. But it is something to keep in mind, the tab for the fall of DOMA will be (within a short period) in the hundreds of millions of dollars the Govt. won't get, and the private sector and Govt. will have to pay out.

Something else to keep in mind:

Gay marriage = millions of dollars for the wedding industry and local economies.

Not really new money tho, as many homosexuals have already been having ceremonies (since thats all they could have in many cases).

Sorry, but while I support gay marriage, it has to be clear that it will cost alot of money, money that will have to come from somewhere else. I.e. taxpayers will pay more tax to cover the loss, and consumers will pay more to consume to cover the costs.

We could save a ton of money by denying a lot of other groups their rights too.
