As we see year in, year out, at least 10 teams do it better than we do and THEY don't have the UMASS wonder.

Don't be demeaning and answer the question.
So why would his role be exaggerated?

It doesn't matter. Again, GM's want full autonomy. They want their guys in all positions around them. The GM is the central position on the direction of the team. The GM picks players that meets their vision. They hire coaches that fall in line with their vision. If you are telling a prospective GM that he needs to keep Tanny and even potentially Rex if he wants this job then you've pretty much cut out at least half your candidates, and all the good candidates. Not to mention most GM's are also well versed in the cap rules and contract structuring and negotiation. It's and insult to them to insist they need Tanny's assistance.

We need to hire a GM with full autonomy and ask that GM if he would like to interview Tanny and Rex to see if he has use for them. If that GM says no then you fire them.

I can assure you it's MUCH less complicated then the US tax code and how many CPA's and accountants do you know?

As mentioned prior, if we're hiring a real GM he should understand the salary cap.

Its like people seem to think that Tanny can add 2+2 and make it come out to be 3. Its asset allocation and forecasting, he isnt inventing cold fusion.

And maybe that's what's going to end up happening.

Exactly. How many guys, for example, successfully manage billions for hedge funds? If you have people around you who can assess talent (Tanny can't and the Jets don't), all you need is a numbers guy who's a tough negotiator.

It might but the point is, assuming this story is true...it continues to prove, no matter how much they see, that this team and ownership just don't get it.

Classic Jets. And you wonder why its been decades since we've made it to the SB? As I've stated in numerous posts, the organization's troubles have always started at the top via incompetent ownership.....perfect example is mishandling this current "search" for a GM. If only the fans would stop buying tickets until there's new hopefully competent ownership it'll be another decade or more of the SOJ.

In all seriousness, I don't even think Jet vets like Clinksdales, who's now in OAK, or Mangini would ultimately agree to that arrangement. Tanny would sell out his own mother to save his job when it comes down to it. I wouldn't trust him with my back turned.

Mangini did, and his good friend Mike T. stabbed him in back after TANNY told him his job was safe regardless of what happened with Favre, who Tanny wanted.....

Which is what the football guy would be brought in here to do.
And honestly, I don't know why the football guy would feel threatened by Tannenbaum. So Tanny goes behind the football guy's back to Woody. What's gonna happen? They can't make football decisions because that responsibility has already been given over to him.

Woody just doesn't want to eat the last 2 yrs of Tanny's contract. Same thing with Rex. So it's possible if he hires a new GM he tells him give Rex one more yr and then it's your call whether to keep him or let him go.

If that happens. Yippe yippe joy joy for the 2013 season. Total disaster. But a top pick in the '14 draft.

Wait a minute. Everybody wanted Mangini gone after that season.

But that's not what was reported, nor is it what you are supporting. The report stated that Woody is going to demote Tanny and is feeling out candidates to see if they'll be ok with that. That is just plain dumb. I think the age question directed towards you wasn't necessarily meant as an insult, but more of a question about your experience in the workforce. Nobody wants a job with leadership requirements where your predecessor is still in the room.

One accountant talking about another accountant.!!!

Jason La Canfora knows squat about this situation.
Just stirring the pot like the other hacks.

Place a pen protector in his shirt pocket with the NFL logo and there you go.

Off with Tanny's head .......that fast talking, used car salesman excuse of a GM.

    Go field some punts tubby

Actually it would be with their TWO predecessors still in the office.

    1. And if he runs into trouble, then Woody will have the decision to make.

    2. I understand that. But if that situation came into fruition what's the worst that Tanny could do in his loss of power.

There are no "football guy" GM's. All GM's have an immense amount of knowledge on structuring deals, fair market offers, etc. It's part of the job. Telling them they have to keep Tanny is saying you think their an idiot and can't do their job.
