    Great SONG WRITERS....

Name one of your favorite song writers. Not necessarily the musician. For example Burt Bacharach wrote tons of number one hits.

Here's one.... an unknown but a legend.

Great choice. Townes was...epic. Steve Earle did a nice 2 CD cover of TVZ songs a few years ago.

Lots of great ones. Leonard Cohen. Joni Mitchell. Steve Goodman.

Here's one of my favorites. This song, live, is simply amazing...just builds and builds and builds. By the time the crescendo comes the air is just alive with music.

    John Prine is awesome.

I got turned on to TVZ when I started listening to Lyle Lovett.

I belong to the nashville songwriters assoc here in Charlotte. basically I pay dues. I stopped attending years ago but waht to support so I stay.

Tons of songwriters I have met..... I love finding BIG HITS and thenlistening to them when they were recorded on an acoustic guitar (or piano) with NO other musicians.

    Here's a GREAT example.

My all time favorite song writer.
This song has been on my mind the last few days.

A friend posted an Iron and Wine song the other day so he immediately came to mind. Then Bon Iver came to mind since they are similar in style in my opinion. There are way too many guys who are more deserving for me to post but I just can't think of them at the moment and I kind of don't want to either.

Another good choice. I've been trying to get to to see him perform for a year now but he doesn't come East very often. The quality of his songwriting went down quite a bit in the 80s but his early stuff was gold.

True. I'm not THAT big a fan of The Pretender either. I will say though, mid to late 90s into the early 2000s he put out a couple really good albums. I'm Alive is really awesome minus some cheesy keyboard/synth sounds. The Naked Ride Home was a good album as well. I haven't kept up too much with anything he's released besides those two. It's hard to compare those works with the genius of his first 3 albums. Here's one from each of those respectively that are just brilliant.
