Lovie Smith runs a cover 2, Rex doesn't. Why would Lovie Dovie be the new DC?

The only way Lovie comes here is if Ryan is gone. Rex isnt a cover 2 guy.

    Dream Scenario:

    Jay Gruden - HC
    Lovie Smith - DC

First, Lovie Smith will be a head coach. Second, he runs a modified Tampa 2 which is the exact opposite of what Rex does.

Another thing, Rexis on the hot seat if he stays. What decent assistant coach is going to come here either on a 1 year deal so no stability or a multiple year deal meaning they will be trapped to work for whoever the new coach.

I would probably fire Rex if we could bring in Smith.

Rex runs a better defense than Lovie (who barely runs that defense, it's absolutely more Marinelli) and some of you guys horribly overrate Gruden.

That much will be proven when Gruden comes back to coach. Hopefully not my favorite team.

And it's amazing how anyone likes Lovie when the guy missed the playofs in 5 times out of 6 years yet Rex gets to the championship game 2 out of his 4 years and he must be fired. Confusing as hell. You'd figure that people would figure out just through every day life that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

I think Rex wants a puppet DC that lets him call the shots.
I'm all for Norv coming here though.

Yes, we can dispense with the "big name coach for DC" theory because it makes no sense. We'll bring in someone (or promote someone) who will be Rex's puppet--that's really how it should work anyway.

Turner and Rex have taken a lot of shots at each other over the past few years, but wouldn't mind turner coming in as OC if they can put it behind each other.

Lovie will get another HC gig, I don't see needing a high profile DC, Rex can handle the D, we just need a good OC for once

Im talking Jay Gruden, not John.

and we want Lovie as a DC. Not HC.

GM, John Dorsey from Green Bay

OC, Mark Trestman, head coach of Montreal in the CFL or Jeff Tedford formerly of California

Wanting Lovie as DC makes absolutely zero sense. Essentially the opposite scheme of what is run now and Lovie doesn't even run that defense. It's not even like running that defense involves anything either. You are basically running the same play 70% of the time.

Thurman is the defensive coordinator if Pettine is gone. Makes the most sense, keeps Rex and everybody running the defense similarly to how it's been done.

    I have a better dream

It involves Rex being fired the Day after the new GM is hired and Lovie Smith being name the HC.
In that dream, Norv Turner would be the OC and Rod Marinelli as the DC .
In that Dream, Mark Sanchez is gone and so is Santonio Holmes, Darelle Revis and Brick Ferguson, the last 2 via trade.

When Rex announced that Ryan would stay, Lovie Smith was still employed by the Bears. Take a minuite Woody and think about this. One guy is quite, has taken his team to the Super Bowl and has never had a losing season. The other man is a loud mouth who is unwilling to allow his offense the freedom take chances. Hiring Lovie as the HC would bring a quite calm to NY that was here under Herm but the experience that was lacking because Herm was a 1st time HC.

I have a dream that 1 day the Jets will once again hoist the Lombardi Throphy. My dream will never include Rex Ryan, because that would be a nightmare.

The smart move is to hire a quality HC and Lovie Smith is the man for the Job. Fire Rex and Hire Lovie

If Garrett is fired (which I think is pretty probable), then why not Rob Ryan as DC?

I would like this for the simple fact that he could keep Rex's mouth in check and have better communication, instead of simply saying I'm calling the D now.

Is Thurman just gonna be another DC with Rex peering over his shoulder?

No. I like Lovie as a DC, not HC. But Rex would need to go if we wanted Lovie to run the D.
