I'm glad they are moving quickly. Hiring an outside consultant doesn't appear to have hamstrung or delayed the search.
That's good to see.
I would think the gang at Korn already had a file on GM candidates that they constantly update. This is why they get the big bucks. Do people honestly think they sit around picking their noses until they gat a call about filling a position? When you call, they are not starting from scratch, they've already done much of the work.
Even if he does in fact bring in Alex Smith, being a new GM, he isn't going to bank his success rate on a QB he knows is very limited. That said, if the 2009 jets had the 2011 Alex Smith we would have won the SB.
And yet they simply could not get there. If they had more dynamic offenses they would have.
Ground and pound plays close games where missed kicks and dropped passes define your fate. The margin for error with ground and pound is much smaller - as seen with your examples last season.
Ground and pound isn't the problem. Having bad QBs is.
Smith simply couldn't get it done against the Giants' D. He left a lot of yards on the field during the NFCCG. Flacco has never been a great postseason QB. He played well against the Pats, but they shouldve been up big in that game and wasn't.
Heck, the Jets couldve had a dynamic offense even with ground and pound if Sanchez wasn't so horrible.
