What is the holdup with Sparano?

Why have we not heard of his dismissal yet?

Waiting for the GM to be hired and then he will evaluate all the coaches, including Ryan.

No big deal. A new OC wouldn't be doing anything right now anyway.

    This.

People have their panties in a bunch because they want the new GM to make all personnel decisions. And then they're mad because we are waiting until we have a new GM to make personnel decisions.

He and the rest of the coaching will be fired once a new GM is hired.

None of these guys are coming back. That is why Rex didn't fire Sparano - he doesn't have that authority. That is also why any talk about Rex coaching in 2013 being a condition for the new GM is BS. You don't hire placement firms and put those caveats in place for prospective GMs. Also Rex doesn't have any input on the new GM when he doesn't have the authority to fire any coaches.

Exactly! Said it before Rex may not be fired yet but he could still could be. I have a hunch though he gets another year with the new guy...

Oh, you forget it's the New York Jets we're talking about.

Nothing will happen for a week and then it will be announced that he "was not fired and did not quit". It's how we handle outgoing OC's.

Explain why Woody stated Rex will be HC then? Why not state, at the very least, "a review of all our coaches under contract will be conducted by the new GM"?

Because he is a valuable commodity as a DC. I don't the Jets will promote him but if the new GM says he doesn't want him, he will be allowed to quietly look for a DC position while the Jets start their HC search. In the interim, he provides a lightening rod for the media to focus on and takes attention away from the more important GM search.

Did he actually say "He will be our HC"?

Remember when Brian Schottenheimer went to interview for the Tampa Bay job last year? And we said glowing things about him, like a reference?

    Put the pieces together.

    c'mon guys..read Woody's statement:

Starting immediately, we will conduct a search for a new General Manager. I've consulted with a number of football executives and I have also engaged the services of Korn/Ferry International, the same search firm that conducted the NFL Commissioner search in 2006. Our process with Korn/Ferry will be led by Jed Hughes, who heads their sports practice and who previously led the General Manager search for the Seattle Seahawks, among others. When we have updates on this process, we will provide them to our fans and the media.

Rex Ryan will remain the Head Coach of our football team. I believe that he has the passion, the talent, and the drive to successfully lead our team.

Like all Jets fans, I am disappointed with this year’s results. However, I am confident that this change will best position our team for greater success going forward.
