Exclamation Reid Tells Chiefs That He and GM Tom Heckert Are a Package Deal

    Damn, talk about pushy.

If Andy Reid winds up in Kansas City, he's planning to bring friends with him.

Reid plans to bring former Browns GM Tom Heckert with him if he accepts the Chiefs job, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported. Heckert's involvement is not a deal breaker.

Still, we can't imagine that Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt would insist on Reid working with current GM Scott Pioli. The arrival of Reid and likely Heckert would almost certainly mean mean the end of Pioli's tenure in Kansas City. Even if Heckert wasn't involved, we had a hard time imagining Reid and Pioli working together. They come from very different backgrounds and Pioli's current contract reportedly calls for final say on the roster. That doesn't fit with Reid.

Heckert was last with the Browns, but Reid and Heckert previously worked together with the Philadelphia Eagles. A report surfaced on Thursday that Reid was close to a deal with the Chiefs, but Rapoport and NFL.com's Steve Wyche and Albert Breer report that Reid still plans to interview with the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday and the San Diego Chargers over the weekend.

The Chiefs' situation, of course, remains fluid. But it's hard to imagine Pioli sticking around at this point.

So Reid gets to pick his own GM? Is that backwards?

Given Andy's name and the respect he has from the rest of the league, it's not surprising that he'd get to pick a GM.

Jeff Fisher did the same thing last year.

Yep. Once you've become an "established" coach with a good rep, you get to do things differently.

Not all owners will go along with it though.

As have countless other coaches. When you're high profile enough, you're basically given carte blanche with demands. This is no surprise.

It's the new variant of the old Tuna Theory.

Except now instead of having a Head Coach also wear the GM role, these big name Coaches brign with them a GM they would (in real terms) control, but that they like, trust and work well with.

Reid would still have de facto GM power, but he'd have a somewhat legit NFL GM working with him at his direction and giving another viewpoint to assist him.

You continue to display your utter lack of NFL knowledge. Please stop posting. Thanks.

    For what?

    In 4 seasons:

He picked a QB nearly as bad as Sanchez, he's gone through 2 coaches
    His team went 25-39
They lost the only playoff game they went to (30-7)
They have drafted in the top 5 2x

Frankly, I don't see any work away from the Pats that even puts him on the same level as Tannenbaum.

Not to mention, his last few drafts in NE were among the team's worst since the Bobby Grier era. And the Pats' drafts suddenly went from poor to solid after his departure.

NO NO NO TO PIOLI, MY GOD NO.

This is the guy who picked Glenn Dorsey, Tyson Jackson, Jonathan Baldwin, Dontarie Poe (When couldve had Fletcher Cox) in the 1st round.

This guy misses more than Tanny.

Another Belicheck employee who cannot stand his own.

    NO

Gamble, Ross, Caldwell or Keim. Basically, anyone but Cohen or Pioli.
