    JOHN
    IDZIK
    VP Football Administration

John Idzik begins his sixth season with the Seahawks after joining the club on February 16, 2007. With Seattle, Idzik oversees player negotiations, the team’s compliance with the NFL salary cap, player personnel transactions, all football operations budgets, staff and team contracts, team travel and most aspects of the day-to-day football operations while also remaining active in player evaluations. In addition, he serves as the club’s primary liaison to the NFL Office and represents the club at League meetings.

Prior to joining the Seahawks, Idzik spent three seasons as Senior Director of Football Operations for the Arizona Cardinals, helping to build an eventual NFC champion. Idzik entered the NFL in 1993 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent 11 years with the Buccaneers, first as a Pro Personnel Assistant and then was elevated to Director of Football Administration in 1996 and Assistant General Manager in 2001. Prior to his tenure with the Buccaneers, Idzik spent the 1991-92 seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Duke University, where he assisted with the offensive line and running backs. In 1990 he was the offensive backfield coach for the Aberdeen Oilers (Scotland) of the British American Football League. Idzik’s first coaching assignment came in 1982 as receivers coach at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Raised in a football family, Idzik’s father, also John, was the head coach of the Aberdeen club after serving as an NFL assistant coach for the Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Colts, Philadelphia Eagles, and N.Y. Jets. They became one of the NFL’s few father-son Super Bowl champions in 2003 when the younger Idzik’s Buccaneers won Super Bowl XXXVII, as his father was the offensive backfield coach of the Super Bowl V champion Baltimore Colts.

A native of Detroit, Idzik graduated with magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa honors from Dartmouth College in 1982 earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, where he also played wide receiver for the Ivy League Champion Big Green. He later earned a master’s degree in liberal studies from Duke University in 1992.

Idzik and his wife, Carol (a University of Georgia graduate), have two sons, Bryant (a senior and captain of the Formula SAE racing team at Western Washington University) and Bradley (a sophomore wide receiver at Wake Forest University), and a daughter, Holly (a senior at Mercer Island High School).

Media likes to criticize Jets on everything, but this has been a real thorough search. They interviewed 9 candidates plus follow up interviews.

Looks like Idzik is the last man in. He has his second interview today and if the reports of the Jets hiring someone on Thursday are true, then it appears he will be the last interview. Hopefully we hear they do the tour of the area today and announce him as GM tomorrow.

Is the last man in usually a good or bad sign?

Unless he was so blown away with Sundquist`s interview ,Woody didn`t feel the need to drag him back for the 2nd interview

I think in this instance, it is good news if you are wanting Idzik. I wouldnt be totally surprised if we hear later on today that he is hired.

    Pending Rex's approval of course....LOL

Wait...there's a whole thread saying that the Jets were "snubbed" by Ross and are now essentially floundering because another candidate dropped out.

Not that what I think really matters, but I'm happy with the way this search is going. They're taking their time, not leaving any stone unturned and most importantly the media has no idea what's going on. It seems as if every report / tweet from a beat writer is contradicted by another. Its quite comical.

It also seems as if a lot ofpeople don't realize that the Jets are the ones in the drivers seat in this situation. They that hold the ticket to one of the 32 most coveted front office jobs in the NFL. They have every right to take their time, and interview every candidate as thoroughly as possible to make sure that the guy that they hire is the perfect fit for the front office, the coaching staff, the team and its fans.

Agree 100% with the above (bolded). But it's really interesting to hear the media and Jets fans on this site claim no one would want the job. Too funny actually - 32 positions in the entire planet, but nobody would possibly want to take on the responsibility / esteem of leading an NFL franchise, especially one as challenging as the Jets!

Just announce Cohen as GM already. Yes it's basically same thing as keeping Tanny but really Tanny should have been given 1 more year - just like Rex.

The marketplace is absolutely contibuting to it but no real big names are going to come here unless they can hire their own guy as HC.

i dont think there's any way that at this point, after all of these interviews, that they go back and hire Cohen. I just can't see it the way this GM search has played out.

    God, I hope I'm right.

Not to mention the riot the hire would cause and the lack of Woody's precious PSL's being sold.

Not sure if this was posted yet:

    http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/201..._in_place.html

The Jets are hoping to have a general manager in place by Thursday, according to a CBS Sports report.

The report states that there are "at least" three finalists: Jets assistant GM Scott Cohen, Omar Khan, the Steelers director of football and business administration and John Idzik, the Seahawks VP of football administration.

The report also claims that a second interview for former Bears GM Jerry Angelo was never requested.

If Khan or Idzik, who are both salary cap specialists, are selected there are expected to be "sweeping" changes in the team's front office.

I'm just as anti Cohen as everyone, but I wonder what the reaction was in San Fran when they promoted baalke.

I think the choice will end up being Idzik....if true, kudos to the poster who started a thread about him before his name was even mentioned by the media.

I'm gonna laugh when next time korn ferry works with a team Scott Cohen will be one of the big names that a team brings in for an interview. People only don't want him just because he's on the team. Many of you might be sitting on the couch next to someone while you're reading this post. Do you share all of the same ideas and values as that person just because they live with you? Probably not. Scott Cohen is an individual with his own thoughts and he'd probably do things different than tannenbaum.

If he's the guy I will welcome him but I don't think it will be at this point.
