That's correct. The Isles need 3 pts from Jets - whether its from the Isles gaining 3 pts, the Jets giving up 3 pts or some combo of the two. The Jets have the ROW tiebreaker so if they end up tied, the Jets get it. But, the Isles are 2 pts ahead with a game in hand.

If the Jets beat the Caps tonight, they will move into the #3 spot, and the magic # against the Caps will be 3.

If the Islanders win tonight, everything becomes a lot easier. They'd need 1 pt out of their final 2 or the loser of the Caps/Jets to give up 1 pt in the last 1/2 games.

Why am I nervous? I guess cause we're Jets/Isles (and some Mets) fans.

Its amazing how many moving days we've had, huh?

Maybe not a "must win" tonight, but it gets a LOT hairier if the Isles don't pick up at least a point tonight.

We can very well see a scenario where both the Caps and Jets make the playoffs and the Senators end up being the odd man out. The Sens play the Caps, Flyers and Bruins to close out the season.

The Jets are just as hot as any of the "hot" teams right now. That is unthinkable considering how bad they were playing 2 weeks ago.

Washington's the hottest team in the East. Not sure I'd want to take them on in the first round. If the top 4 spots stay as is, I'd wish the Isles to grab the 5th spot from Toronto, and play Boston in the 1st round.
Honestly, I'm not sure I'd want to play Winnipeg with their home ice advantage. Whoever ends up is that 3 seed is going to be a red hot team.

You have to root for the Caps to win in regulation. Absolutely have to. No dilema whatsoever. Clinching a playoff spot trumps everything.

    From nhl.com-

"The New York Islanders can clinch a playoff berth if they defeat the Carolina Hurricanes in any fashion and the Capitals defeat the Jets in any fashion, or if they earn one point against the Hurricanes while the Capitals defeat the Jets in regulation. The New York Rangers can clinch a playoff berth if they defeat the Florida Panthers in any fashion and the Capitals defeat the Jets in regulation."

Is it too much to ask for a stress free, blow out win tonight? 6-2? 5-1? Something like that?

Considering we're Jets and Isles fans, that's highly unlikely. Tonight will probably involve some form of torture.

Am I correct that the Magic number is three.?
Combination of points Islanders get and Winnipeg fails to get?

So if Isles and Jets both lose tonight - Magic Number would go down to one?

    Really, Islanders?

    Down 3-2 to Carolina?

Time to take your skirts off, OK?

    Thanks.

Looks like the one point tonight will be enough.

That was an insane end to the third followed by one of the most entertaining overtimes on both ends.

Not knowing at the time if Winnipeg was going too lose made it even harder. I think the end of that game took a couple of years off my life but it was worth it.

Now I can enjoy the draft in peace.....and oh yeah........Goodell GFY for ruining the sat/sun draft.

Go ISLES, what an amazing year so far.

Would have felt a bit better if they won, but they are in!

now...what to do about Naby? i thought he looked dazed at times tonight and vs the Jets. do we give Poulin the next game, or do we continue to ride Naby
in hopes of a higher seed?

I think they have to give Nabby some time off. I think tonight was his 40th start this year. Give Poulin the start Thursday.

I sure as hell don't want to face Pittsburgh.

I don't want to face Pittsburgh either, but Nabakov sure looks like he could use a break.

I'd definitely sit Naby on Thursday, as they play on Friday, as well. Keep him fresh for the finale. Would suck to have him even more winded/have to sit him in a win and lock up the 6th/move up to 5th type of scenario or whatever it may be. Not to mention, Friday is a tougher opponent in Buffalo.

Lost and still made it! At least two more home games now!

Nabby needs a rest, whichever game he sits.

Didn't even stop one puck in the shoot out...

gave up a truly awful goal in Winnipeg. didn't come out to challenge a guy and just sat there like a dead duck,

if Poulin wins first game I might rest Naby for two games.

First goal last night was awful, too...
