    How to fix the Jets

As you can see by my quote, I haven't been here in years. The Jets keep pulling me back. The biggest problem with the Jets is the same as the biggest problem with my Mets. You can't fire incompetant ownership.

The only hope for the Jets is to hire someone who can build a contending team like Woody Johnson did when he hired Bill Parcells. The new GM, same as the old, a cap specialist who can' learn' how to draft.

I can't believe that ex GM Terry Bradway is still the head scout. He is the poster boy for drafting looks like Tarrzan plays like Jane workout warriors bust draft picks.

Someday the Jets might pick a GM like Ozzie Newsom of the Ravens but only when Woody Johnson is strong armed to do the right thing.

In the meantime I'll join my old friend SAR in throwing poisened darts at the management until I give up in frustration which probably won't take very long.

I really like Woody as an owner. He is quite the opposite from the Wilpons. The guy is willing to spend money and lets his football people make the football decisions. For the most part he is exactly what you want in an owner. I like that he built a state of the art training facility for the team. It was sorely needed as well. I don't buy the media hype that he forced trades for guys like Tebow. The stories are speculative at best with no evidence whatsoever to back them up.

The nail in the coffin for me was when Woody bungled the whole failed West Side Jets Stadium. He was completly outfoxed by James Dolan who paid off enough state politicians in Albany. Dolan did not want a Jets Westside Stadium that would compete with Madison Square Garden for concerts. Gosh chiefsr2000 you remind me of the New York Post headline when Bill Parcells was hired 'Parcells gets a Woody'. What surprised me that Woody fired Tannenbaun, I thought he would keep Tanny as a cap specialist. He had to scapegoat someone for the entire Tebow fiasco and Tanny certainly fit the bill. spending all the money in the world doesn't buy you competancy.

I could care less about the West Side Stadium. I want my team to win. I only go to one or two games a year and the Meadowlands is more convenient to drive to from Rockland.

Tannenbaum got fired for a number of reasons but I'm not sure why you think he was scapegoated. He did a bad job in guaranteeing Sanchez and trading for Tebow. He deserved to be fired for killing the cap and wasting the teams resources. There is no evidence that Woody pushed for or had anything to do with those moves.

    Hey SAR;

I retired and moved to Oklahoma City after I was forced into early retirement due to a corporate takeover by a British Company as I promised my wife who has many relatives throughout the state. Sold my house for a profit and missed most of the housing crash. Moved to OKC the same month as the SuperSonics move to OKC and became an instant Thunder fan .

I have always been an Oklahoma Sooners football fan since I had been visiting my in-laws in Oklahoma for decades. Nothing like a game in Norman on a Saturday. I wouldn't mind the Jets taking a chance on QB Landry Jones in the second round

As far as the Jets and Woody Johnson are concerned it proves the old adage that no amount of inherited wealth can fix stupid. I do like Rex Ryan because he is at least entertaining and anyone who irritates the NY and national sports media yakkers as much as Rex does is worth his weight in gold.

What have you been up to SAR?

Well I'll be damned! Robert A. Jensen himself. Bob, I never thanked you for the many hours of lively discussion, entertaining back & forth ribbing of Dolphin and Pats fans for oh so many years back on alt.sports.football.pro.ny-jets (usenet). I hope your wife and daughters (and by now, their families) are well. You and I fell out of sorts when you labeled me a racist because I did not like Herm Edwards as a HC. Nothing further from the truth, dude. I just thought he didn't have the right skill set to be successful at that job. He'd be a dunce no matter what the color of his skin. But I'm willing to extend an olive branch on that one, but you were very wrong Bob.

p.s. JDSal45 (Pats fan nemesis of yours), David Toste, Glenn Greenstein, Bimal Desai, Steve Parker (Raiderjet), and so many others are all doing well but no longer post anywhere.. but they still play in my fantasy leagues. As always, you be invited to join.

Thanks Dcat. I'll get involved in the Jets draft talks. I remember Green Eggs and Ham. Wasn't a single draft that he didn't give the Jets an A+. Used to post regularly in the NY Times Jet forum I don't think it exists any more. My favorite draft day was when I argured that the Jets should pick Jonothon Vilma or Derrick Strait and they picked both with the Jet draft experts panning the picks saying they weren't athletic enough. Derrick hurt his leg as a rookie in the first game of the season and never recovered. Jonothon Vilma became defensive rookie of the year. I also pleaded for the Jets to take TE Heath Miller, who was there for the taking. Bradway traded the pick and selected two players in the second round, K Mike Nugent and CB Justin Miller.

First rule in the draft, pay no attention to the combines, Jets have been suckered into picking too many combine workout warriors.

Subject to change my picks for now would be:

    1. LB Mont Te'o Notre Dame, he will fall to the Jets
    2. RB Joseph Randle Oklahoma State from the program that produced Barry Sanders and Thurmon Munson.
    3. QB Landry Jones Oklahoma, showing my OU bias only if Jets don't trade for QB Alex Smith, a West Coast QB that fits the new offensive coordinator.

I think Teo might be available to us in rd 2 which in that case he'd be a steal. Especially now with the gay rumors and inneundo about him and that Ronnian Tuaisossopo guy I can see him dropping big-time.

    Round 1: Chance Warmack
    Round 2: Teo
    Round 3: Alvin Bailey
    Round 4: Kenjon Barner

Sign David Garrard to a league minimum deal to be Sanchez's backup.

Moved from NH back home to NJ for a great career move and now am in my 3rd BMW in 5 years.

I do miss attending Jets/Pats contests in New England, went to 13 games while I was up there and never took the time to appreciate it until it was gone.

Woody Johnson did not hire Parcells. Leon Hess hired him. I was in Mr. Hess' apt when John Hess told me I would be sorry I gave up Jets tickets because Bill was coming

I like the Randle pick, Te'o is a quality ILB but our biggest need on D is a speedy OLB. Not sold at all on Jones.

You are of course, correct. It was a long time ago but I still remember the day Woody was named the buyer after the passing away of Leon Hess. 'Parcells gets a Woody!' Best Jets headline ever. Too bad Mr. Hess would not allow his heirs to buy the Jets.
