You couldn't be more wrong. Coming off a major injury, the last thing Revis wants to do is play out next year without a new deal. Thats why he wants answers. Wherever he plays this season, he wants a new deal right now before he risks another injury. Signing a new deal now will hurt him a little in overall dollars but still gets a mega deal. Playing out the year to hit FA could really hurt his overall dollars in a major way if he hurt himself again.
Risk is a decidely two way street. How can you assume it will hurt him a little if he himself isn't willing to take the risk? The reality of the NFL is one player rarely gets you over the hump and if that player is coming off injury and is willing to give up money because of risk teams are going to give less because of risk.
Don't ever underestimate a multi-millionare athlete having the balls to take a major risk for a major reward.
Revis is actually very lucky the Jets sucked the last 2 years. Had we come off a really good year we most likely would let him play out the year if a deal couldn't be reached. Noway would the Jets trade Revis this year if we were going to be legit contenders. Even if we couldn't come to agreement on a new deal.
The fact the Jets are going to be bad next year makes this a no brainer to trade him now.
I laugh at the people who still think the Jets may try to sign him. It's not happening. He's gone to the highest bidder and anyone saying otherwise is just fooling themselves.
I love Revis. He's the best CB in he game and top 5 overall player on defense. It's just bad timing thats all. The team is looking to rebuild over the next 2 years and realizes this could be 3-4 years before we are contenders again. Paying a CB 100 mil today makes zero sense. If he was a QB or monster pass rusher this would be a different story.
I can't believe how dense some of the 'keep revis' people are.
revis will not sign for anything less than being the highest paid defensive player in the league... and guess what? next year when he is a FA, some team will be more than willing to make him just that.
does that make revis a bad guy? no. but i can do without this NFL network interview where he comes out trying to play the victim. give me a break. poor baby, the jets are thinking about trading you?does your vagiant hurt?
the jets have three options
1) decide they do not want to pay a CB 15M+ a year, and trade him this offseason for whatever they can get
2) blow him away with a contract offer that will get Revis to sign before he becomes a FA (which will mean QB money)
3) let him play, prove his ACL is fine, and have him hit the open market next year and attempt to resign him, while bidding against other teams.
there is no 4) sign him to a 'reasonable' deal or 5) only trade him for 20 #1 pickz!#$!@#! .. You either decide to dont want to pay a CB that kind of money and move on, take a risk and sign him now, or let him prove he's back to 100% and bid against teams with the cap room to make him the highest paid defensive player in history.
Come on, it's pretty simple.
If he signs a deal this season he has a little less leverage as he's not an UFA. So by singing a year early, i'm simply saying he only hurts his overall dollars by a smaller amount.
Should he play out the year and get hurt again, we are talking a much larger chunk of a change he would lose out on.
But Revis isn't a risk taker when it comes to money. That's why he's held out so much. If he was a risk taker he'd have sat out the whole season in 2010. He wants to get paid and get paid now.
Remember, he was considering holding out last year. His holdouts are negiotiation ploys to get more money now because that's his priority.
Is it reasonable to think that no team will trade for Revis? Coming off of surgery and the fact he is a FA next year, I'd think teams would rather take a shot at him then. If they do that, they are not giving up a first.
BTW, from Revis' perspective, the beauty of getting traded and getting a big deal now is that in 2 years he can simply re-negotiate to get a bigger deal.
So, yeah, he may strike out in getting $100 mil now, but sign an $80 mil deal and then seek a $100 mil deal in 2 yrs.

You know this How? Your assuming that is the case and your thinking like a fan, instead of a player at the top of his profession .
You don't get to Revis level without having the viewpoint that he is the best and have the uttermost confidence in yourself. Just Like Adrien Peterson probably didn't have any doubt in his mind he would come back less than what he was before the injury . I bet there is no part of D Revis which thinks there is any chance he not the same old D Revis.
Now can you please answer these questions. ONe. How much has D Revis made roughly with the Jets. Now if this was his only chance at a big payday , I might agree with you but not in Revis situation. (he probably has enough to live comfortable) Two . Can D Revis take out an Insurance policy like J Clowney for possible another injury if he wants to.
Three What more appealing to teams Just paying big money to Revis or trading picks and paying big bucks.
JMO The Jets get one first round pick they better jump at it. Most likiely thwey might have to trade him as one year rental.
This is why I don't get the "We Can't Trade Revis" people. Add in the fact
that when the following players get new contracts:
JJ Watt
Clay Matthews
Jason Pierre-Paul
Patrick Peterson
Richard Sherman
Jadaveon Clowney (When he gets here)
You know who will be knocking on the front office's door looking for more
$$$
The Jets task is clear. Offer him a deal that's good for them, and one that Revis gets $40 mil in guarantees. If he doesn't take it, trade him. Done.
Exactly. It shouldn't be a shock to anyone.
Revis wants $16 to $18 mil a year per year. He's said as much. He realizes that a team won't give him a contract that will actually pay him that amount each year (the prior Jets negotiation taught him that) and the fact that how NFL contracts must be structured for salary cap reasons.
So, he'll get a contract that will pay him $16 mil each of the 1st 2 season and then $8 mil per the next 3. So what does he do? Renegotiate in year 3 so he'll get $16 mil again rather than the original $8 mil as agreed.
