And Tx will never respond to this. He's on Step 0 of the 12 Step program to deal with Pats' fans insecurity issues.

If we were going to trade Revis to SF it should have possibly been for a package that included Alex Smith. Smith plus a pick, maybe 3rd/4th this year and a conditional 2014 2nd that could become a 1st if Revis remains healthy.

    Post of the decade.

This, verbatim, should be a popup on PatsFanTX's browser every time he tries to derail a thread.

Or patman whenever he is THE FIRST person to reply to a somewhat Jets-positive thread with an histrionic multi paragraphed reply of cold water.

The problem is that Revis is now a one year rental for the Jets or any other team who trades for him. He can not be franchised. This significantly reduces his trade value. Everyone knows that without a trade, Revis walks in February 2014 and becomes UFA. No team wIll give the Jets anything remotely close to your unrealistic idea of his trade value. If the best you can do is look at his talent without factoring in his contract status, then you are not too familiar with trade practices among GMs in the NFL.

If anyone knows NFL contract law, can they give me an answer to this hypothetical ...

If a team approaches the Jets with compensation that the Jets front office deem acceptable can the Jets allow that team to negotiate a contract extension in principle with Revis before they trade him ?

Yes, but the Jets FO has to give their permission.

Otherwise, it would be considered tampering.

Revis' worth is a complex mathematical .

The basic theory is as follows:

2 proven healthy ACL's + 2 years on contract = 2 first round draft pics

1 Healthy ACL + 2 years on contract = 2 healthy ACL +1 year on contract = 1 first round draft pick.

1 Healthy ACL + 1 year on contract = 1 Second round draft pic

It's a sliding scale. You can look it up at www.RevisGotNoACL.com

If they Give Revis 13-15 mill in 2014, What about Justin Smith and Whitnner who are FA, What are they going to do with Aldon Smith and Kapernick- both of who will be going into thier walk years.

They need all those picks so that they can keep those players and the 4 lbs all of whom get paid big money. All these picks are going to play for 1 mill a year for 4 years, there going to be able to keep this team together for a long time.
Their GM is good enough to understand that Delanie Walker will get a starting deal elsewhere. Whitner and Goldson, of which Goldson is the better of the two, both cannot be kept.

In fact, I was surprised they kept Bowman.

Patrick Willis, a developing Aldon Smith, Revis and Goldson is still a Super Bowl defense.

In fact, Revis and Smith by themselves will win you a Super Bowl.

People are quickly forgetting how good Revis is. He can hit, too. He's not only a coverage guy.

But he's not worth what he's going to be looking for.

The Jets would be dumb to attempt to keep him. I'd be just as scared of him getting hurt again.

Meet San Fran half-way and ship him off.

Screw that, go all out for the best deal possible. San Fran does not possess the ability to give us the best deal unless they are throwing 2013 and 2014 1st round picks at the Jets.

Send him to the highest bidder.

Thank PFT, it seems like the most logical way to get a deal done, negotiate a trade pending on a contract extension being successfully completed with permission to hammer out a deal in advance from the Jets.

Apparently the 49ers have cooled off in the Revis sweepstakes. Could be just a negotiating tactic...

I believe it's exactly what it is.

They would be foolish to not want Revis. With 15 draft picks? They don't have the future cap space to keep re-signing all their current and future big names.

If the Chiefs were able to get Alex Smith for a second-round draft pick in 2013 and a conditional third-round pick in the 2014 draft, what does that say about the 49ers view of Ree Ree's to-be proven value? Unless someone Decides Like a Jet, we'll more than likely see the Revis play the last season of his contract with the Jets, which he has zero choice but to do ... right up until they trade his and his uncle's asses, to the 49ers.

    Adam Schefter ✔ @AdamSchefter

ESPN's Chris Mortensen said a source told him the 49ers are not inclined to pursue Darrelle Revis at this time. So there's that.

if no one else is making offers they sure arent going to bid against themselves, especially when woody johnson has made it so clear he wants revis out.. He should just stfu.. he is a terrible owner.. Now teams know Jets are going to give away Revis one way or another..

Of course they want revis, 32 teams in the league want Revis. it is not a question of wanting him, it is a question of how do they pay for him Aldon Smith, and Kapernick and Grabtree and Iupati in the 2014 off season.

They already pay big money to Justin Smith, Wiilis, Bowman, Brooks , Rogers and Vernon Davis. If kapernick gets them to the playoffs again next year both him and aldon smith will be 15mill each. Add revis 13-15 and that is over 100 mill for just 9 guys. the other 43 guys will have to get paid almost min for them to get under the cap.

I think they will be a player for him as a 1 year rental, then let him go and get a third rd pick. But IMO they are not in a postion to sign him long term.

If they dont have enough to sign thier own guys why spend 15 mil on Revis.
the draft picks allow them to have cheap labor to supplement thier stars.
That is what makes draft picks valuable, they are cheap labor.

If Woody does not put it out that he is willing to live without Revis, how do you think the talks about extending him will go if revis thinks the jets can not live without him?

Believe me, he knew what he was saying.
