    This Is Funny...

Back in 2005 we had big expectations and what happened?:

    - We went 4-12

    - We lost all of our QB's (Pennington, Fiedler) in the span of one quarter
against JAC. Pennington then had his second rotator cuff surgery in a year

    - Our best defensive player (Abraham) was crying about his contract

    - Our coach lied and sneaked his way out of town

    - Our GM didn't want the scrutiny of being the face of the team and
    asked to be demoted

    - We were in "Cap Hell" and had to cut Mawae & Fabini amongst others

    - Curtis Martin would never play another down for the team

    - We were a "laughingstock"

And EVERYONE expected 2006 would be even worse because:

    - Two mid 30 year olds took over the organization

    - We traded our best defensive player for a low first round pick

    - We had to find QB's to compete for the job

    - We had to find multiple starters on the O-line

    - We were going from a 4-3 Tampa 2 system to a 3-4 defense with
    Dewayne Robertson as our NT

I could go on but what happened in 2006, the team went 10-6 and made
the playoffs. So for everyone just writing off 2013 as a lost season you
need to remember what happened not too long ago.

There are some interesting parallels although I think very few people had high expectations for 2012.

If we can repeat one thing from 2006 I would hope that it would be the draft. Would love to take a couple of OL high, find a HR hitting RB and a couple of ST aces.

I appreciate your enthusiasm and hope.

Funny might be a stretch, but most all is true with the exception of the notion that our former HC lied. Herm was under contract to the Jets but just like Rex Ryan this year, was a lame duck. He wanted an extension but was denied and forced the Jets to either fire him or do what they did and trade him to someone who showed interest.

    Where was the Lie ?

Herm had 2 years left on his contract. That's why the Jets were able to trade him. Everyone and their mother knows he was talking with Carl Peterson during the season. Peterson even hinted at it during a press conference after the 2005 season.

Ok, what was the Lie ? Herm was traded, but when asked, his response was always that he was preparing his team for the upcoming season. What do u think would have happened if the Jets didn't trade Herman Edwards to the Chiefs as far as Herm was concerned, not the team ?

+1 It was also Hermie's buddy Dick Vermeil that asked him to take over the Chiefs when he retired after the 05 season..

Hopefully the parallels will continue through the draft. We had an absolutely tremendous haul in 2006, with guys like Brick, Mangold, Leon Washington and Brad Smith. They missed on Kellen Clemens, but eventually turned the pick they got for trading back to take him into Thomas Jones. And even Eric Smith was a contributor.

If we can get that sort of talent infusion, anything is possible.

Right, and the core of that team made the playoffs every season its QB (Chad) was healthy, which he was in 2006. That core is gone, and we don't have a QB anywhere near the caliber of a healthy Pennington.
