Report: Elvis Dumervil could be released

    Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora
Broncos like pass rusher Elvis Dumervil, but not at $12M/year. They are seeking a lower deal, and situation could end up with his release...
If he gets released, I'd love to have him here. We are short on OLB's, and Dumervil would be perfect in our defense, as he fits a need.

Nobody wants to pay big money anymore, except to QBs. Revis take note.

Payton should have given them the Tom Brady discount to leave room for Dumervil.

It's an interesting question, who is worth more ? Is Revis that much bigger an influence on the outcome of a game than Elvis Dumervil ?

Apparently so. Teams are interested in trading for Revis while it doesn't seem that anyone is interested in Elvis at 12 million.

He was recently listed as one of the most overrated players in the league as he apparently gets steamrolled in the run game.

He is essentially a situational pass rusher that is getting paid like an every down OLB.

Yes he is, no comparison actually. Dumervil is bad against the run and even as a pass rusher he is nothing special. Consider his numbers with the opposition clearly protecting against Von Miller.

The guy has been on a defense that has gone from a 4-3 to a 3-4 then back to a 4-3, and his position has changed every season. Last year he played RDE while Miller played SLB...not a great comparison. For what it's worth, in Dumervil's one season as an OLB he had 17 sacks, and that's without #58.

I would love to have him. We are not short on OLBs, we have none. We'll see what he's worth.

Either people have no clue what's going on around here or we are going to have some very dissapointed people in a few weeks once FA is in full swing.

Jets are on the verge of trading their best player on defense and are starting a total rebuild on offense.

We will not be players in FA the next year or 2. We're going young, building through the draft and will plug in some FA's once we see what we have and once we see this team is on the up and up. Jets will look to sign some 1-2 year stop gaps this of season and that's about it.

We don't have much money to begin with but even if we did it wouldn't make sense right now to spend. We need to use the draft the next 2 seasons to develop some talent and then fill in where it's needed. It's looking like 2015 will be the year things really change. Most likely we stink this year. So we use this draft and the 14 draft to grab as much talent as possible and hopefully our franchise QB. We develop players in 2013 and 14 and then in 15 become players in FA and have another draft to fill spots.

This season and next are total rebuilding years, especially for the offense. Expectations are low and should be. We need 2 years to build this offense so everyone needs to be patient

Revis is not going to take note until he finds out for himself. Then it'll be too late for us.

Do you think he is going to close the door on the jets, I don't

We could have two average players in those positions and win, problem is we haven't had an O for two years.

Trade Revis. He wants $16 mil a year right?

    Sign Dumerville for 8 mil/year.

Sign one of the VERY long list of FA corners for 4-6 mil/year.

    Sign Landry for 4-6 mil/year.

$16 mil / year gets you pass rush, run stuffing and coverage, plus whatever draft picks you get for Revis.

    Addition by subtraction.

Revis can say he wants $16m ... it's an entirely different matter to see if anyone will actually offer it. Especially coming off injury.

What if he talks to a lot of teams and finds the most he'll get is say $12m? Where does he go then?

I am quietly hoping that a dose of reality awaits Revis & his agents in the coming months.

The cap is strict again like it was in the early 2000s.. Teams just can't afford to pay big to some positions if you expect to have any depth at all.

Right now the scale involves a QB getting 20% of the cap. Baltimore is going to feel that hard.

Of course QB is the most important position, but the only way to cheap out at certain positions is to be able to draft extremely well.

Like the Steelers, Giants, Eagles, and Patriots basically do, now what would that get you?

In my opinion, pass rushers rank right after QB.

But Dumervil is small and crappy against the run. As such, he's not worth a double digit per year contract. With that said, he has worth.

Revis is not worth what he does to your depth and salary cap. After he gets traded to San Francisco, who will underpay the Jets for him, he'll quickly agree to a $10-11 million dollar a year contract that is cap friendly.

He will then proceed to be the final component to what will likely be a multiple Super Bowl tear over the next 5-6 years with Kapernick, Smith, Willis, Bowman, Crabtree, Davis, and James.

In fact I'd try like hell to get Kendall Hunter or LaMichael James, their first, and a 3rd in 2014.

Kendall Hunter is coming off injury, but he's a solid RB. He could carry the load, provided he's not a UFA.

Flacco's not as good as Roethlisberger, Brady, either Manning, Brees, Rodgers, Luck, or RG3 assuming both get back to and stay healthy.

That was an awful contract made by an owner that shouldn't be negotiating them.

On the surface this would appear like it would be a great move but we have too many holes to fill and not enough $$$ to go around.
