I am sure there is a wink/wink deal in place to extend it once the season starts. It had to be a one year deal or pitt would have been able to change the salary to a SB to spread the cap hit.

Only thing that surprises me with this deal is that if the Patsies do give up their 3rd round pick, they'll be very short of picks in a deep draft. Not like BB at all.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they trade out of the 1st to pick up a few mid round picks, especially as they could be sitting in a sweet pot for QB needy teams to trade up into.

Or ... could they be looking to ship someone like Mallet for picks this year?

The team was too young last year, every player on defense but Wilfork,Ninko and Mayo was on their first NFL contract. On Offense Besides Brady it was Mankins and Connoly and an old WR corps. The WR corp now averages 26, almost 5 years younger than Welker/Lloyd/Branch/Stallworth.

Now they got Talib for the whole year and Wilson should add some Vet Leadership to a very young secondary, I expect a trade down to pick up the pick. I don't think mallet will be available at a price that would get any offers.

@RapSheet: The #Eagles have been shopping RB Dion Lewis for a while. Source confirms he's been traded to #Browns for LB Emmanuel Acho

Chip Kelly's overhaul of the Philadelphia Eagles continued on Thursday with a player-for-player trade.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport cited a source to report the Eagles shipped running back Dion Lewis to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for linebacker Emmanuel Acho. ESPN first reported the transaction.

It's not exactly a high-octane swap, but Acho gives Kelly a young, second-year linebacker to add to the mix. He never got started in Cleveland, landing on season-ending injured reserve in August after being drafted in the sixth-round out of Texas. His brother, Sam Acho, has started 26 games at linebacker for the Arizona Cardinals over the past two seasons.

Lewis is another fringe performer. With just 36 carries for 171 yards in his first two seasons, the 2011 fifth-round pick fell behind Bryce Brown on the depth chart last season. Reports suggested the 5-foot-8, 195-pound Lewis wasn't a fit for Kelly's system, and the Eagles have tried to shop him before, according to Rapoport.

Now they've succeeded, and we're one move closer to seeing what Kelly's Eagles will look like in 2013.

What the hell happened?...wasn't that long ago I thought your d-line was beastly,LB's promising and a very useful secondary.
That looks like a practice squad....and not necessarily a good one!

    Cuts and a familiar name-Dowtin.

@RavensInsider: Eagles' roster cuts: linebackers Ryan Rau and Marcus Dowtin, wide receiver Ron Johnson and cornerback Chris Hawkins

To be fair the Patriots have managed the cap OK...the ageing roster and poor drafts have been an issue for you though and will be exacerbated when Brady slows down
