Pats will draft Tavon Austin and sign Leon Washington. All you need is a legit QB and you can be a playoff team. Maybe Jets draft one this year.

manning problem is he cant throw deep well now.. other than that he has some of the best chemistry Ive ever seen from a qb.. even last year with new recievers.. I think welker is perfect for manning, he isnt a deep route runner and little practice with peyton he wont miss a beat..

Jeez...and to think that, even after a pay-cut, we are still paying Scumbagio $7.5M this year alone. Thanks Tanny.

Yeah That is not as bad as I thought it would have been. Considering how much they wasted on Lloyd you'd think that would be a given. If this wasn't such a good WR draft I'd say they are in trouble. Fact is they can throw a 3rd rounder in the system and see huge production.

Then why have they been unable to do so with any of the WRs they've drafted in the last 8 years?

There is still a chance the Pats offered a bit more but Welker felt it was still less then he expected from a team that he thought owed him a payday.

This happens where players turn down a bit more to head elsewhere when ego gets invlolved.. I have to believe the Pats offered at least a 2 year deal worth 12 mil or somewhere close enough.

This isn't happening. Cruz is possible though.

@tomecurran: Spoke to someone close to Tom Brady. Beyond enraged at contract details that netted Broncos Wes Welker. "Disgrace" "disservice" were used.

That's as I suspected. I guarantee that Brady signed for that discounted salary so that they could keep Welker.

Just another reason why it's dumb for a player not to maximize what they're getting in each contract negotiation.

Nope, Pats offered him 2 yrs/$10 million plus incentives.

That would be scarey if you ask me. I can just see Cruz taking those 3 yard across the field passes from Brady and scoring from 80 yards out on the Jets.

Nope, the Patriots final offer was $10M over 2 years, and they wouldn't add the $2M to match Denver's offer.

    Pretty much what I speculated.

I have to think part of the reason why Brady did his deal they way he did was so the Pats could make an honest attempt at re-signing Welker.

Any chance he demands a trade???

Not like Brady to overreact or anything.

If they sign Cruz, he'll be more than happy. He may even win a Superbowl before he retires.

$12MM guaranteed for a 5'10", 185 lbs slot receiver who will be 33 years old next year?

The Pats don't pay players for past performance, and this is a perfect example.

Welker had a great run with the Pats, hope he does well with Peyton.
