    This is your big signing?

    Jets re-sign fullback Lex Hilliard

The Jets have re-signed fullback Lex Hilliard on a 1-year contract, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed. The person requested anonymity because the Jets have not made the move official.

The news was first reported by Pro Football Talk.

Hilliard came to the team as a replacement for the injured John Conner in October and finished the season with eight carries for 31 yards. Hilliard was also a strong presence on special teams

I too am suprised that we haven't won the super bowl this year yet. I mean free agency has been going for a few days now. Splash signings for names is how to win a championship. That's how we won those super bowls with Boomer Esiason, Brett Favre and Ronnie Lott. He is setting the team up to be flush with cap money and building through the draft. It is a good system but it takes time.

LOL...free agency is two days old. He has cleared approximately 43 million in cap so far. Not bad for two days.

Who did you want him to sign?

What free agent out there, that has already been signed, did you want and explain why you were willing to give that player $$$ that was equal or more than what they've received from the team that did sign them?

Please also explain how Idzik would fit that number into our cap mess that Tanny left then also explain how we would fill the numerous other roster spots with the cap money left over after signing the player(s) you wanted.

    ...........

It's been reported that Hilliard will play several positions on the team in 2013: fullback, OLB, Safety, and TE. Not at the same time of course. The Jets have indicated that they intend to field a 45 man roster as a cost saving move.

Some of our guys, like Landry or Bell...we have lost 8 starters on defense alone, including 3 safeties. Rex's system is to complex to expect 8 new starters to have any success. If you guys are willing to throw 2013 away, have fun..Im too old for this crap AGAIN.

I'll say it again. We need 2 boards. 1 for fans like me who understand what is going on and a 2nd board for the clueless fans like the OP.

Exactly! The knee jerk moves that the previous regime proved that all it did was get the Jets in cap trouble. Idzik has already said that they will build the future through the draft and with undrafted FA players mostly. It is obvious that they won't give any of these money hungry players what they want and I am all for it. Why give an aging vet multi bucks so he can break down and just collect his cash. Lets see how long Welker will last with Denver. In there case they are 2 or 3 pieces away from a possible Championship. In the Jets case they need multiple players and big signings are just pointless. They now have plenty of money to sign all there draft picks and they can even afford to take some hits from a Revis or Sanchez casualty and still sign some quality players as the market cools down. I like what Idzik and the new regime have done so far.

You guys all missed your callings, the bus for Hollywwod has left the station. You want to debate fine, but grow up with the name calling. You want to build by the draft? Great. But you can't start 8 rookies on Dee unless you r willing to throw the year away. If u r ok with that, enjoy your season.

    Astonishing really.

We are only just now trying to dig out from under a huge steaming pile of sh1t that was created in large part because the previous GM never met a microphone he did not like and never passed a up short term splashy deal if it would win HIM the back pages of the NY tabloids for a few days.

The roster he left us with was as weak overall as any I can remember in 30 years as a Jets fan and the new guy is trying to repair this after years of of the Jets systemically trying to pursue the near term "trinket du jour" and always at the expense of the longer term health and well being of the franchise.... And what is the first thing we hear after a couple of days of free agency? Complaints that we have not made enough moves....

    Pfffftt......

Let's repair the roster. Let's start to build from within and through the draft and let's try to avoid like the plague any of the pointless media-whoring that has characterized this rudderless ship for the last 7 years.

Let's also understand that this is not going to happen in one season and that 2013 will likely need to be sacrificed in pursuit of the long term goals. That does not mean necessarily that we will be terrible this year. We might be terrible but that is not a lock by any means. Even if we are bad, that does not mean there will not be things to cheer for in 2013 if, as we hope, the kids can demonstrate growth. But let's just stop with this habit of larding up the roster and overpaying for players who have seen better days with other teams and who are not going to be part of the long term picture anyway.

Teams are over paying for our guys, Devito and Landry at least. There should be a lot of bargain FA's pretty soon when the 1st wave of fa is over with. I think we have to wait a little further on in Fa to judge him.
