Another decent roster filler that won't preclude them from going after a TE in the draft.

This will fill the blocking TE need for the Jets, which, strangely enough, has been harder to fill for them than the pass catching TE.

If its around $1m, sure, why not? Anything to stop having 6 lineman play 40% of the snaps.

The guy has HANDS OF STONE!
saw a game last year where he dropped 2 wide open passes from Cutler.
    Cutler was pissed.
But like Hill, he does get open, lol.

If he's cheap, why not, give him a shot. I believe he is a pretty good blocker & we need that.

Big, tall guy who has been an effective red-zone target (11 TDs on only 47 career receptions), but whose real value is as a blocker.

He drove the Bears crazy as a starter because of drops but, as a cheap potential #2 blocking TE, he could be a nice addition.

He is a total JAG. But it goes along with what Idzik is doing. Signing guys that can be cut at anytime. We just need to fill out a roster this year.

What (if anything) does this mean for Hayden Smith I wonder.

Jet will HAVE to draft a TE in the first 5 rounds. They have nobody.

Probably nothing. He is still back of the roster/practice squad material (I think he's still eligible, right?) until he proves otherwise. Davis seems like the kind of guy who isn't necessarily a guarantee for a roster spot either, so I think Cumberland, H. Smith, Davis (assuming he gets signed) and Reuland (as well as a potential draft pick) all compete for spots on the team.

No one is really a shoe in there. And the fact that they have potentially 4 JAGs at TE doesn't preclude them from taking a TE in the draft.

I'd rather take a chance on Fred Davis.

if he's a good blocker I don't mind as long as we draft a tight end

    Fred Davis would be nice

Davis has physical tools, but terrible hands. He killed a lot of drives in Chicago.

Don't worry, QB will likely kill the drives way before it falls to a TE or Hill to do so.

Keller wasn't great but his departure is a loss. People seem to like Cumberland but I remember him looking very unathletic and stiff, struggling to make an easy catch. TE looks to be a glaring hole on the team now. Davis doesn't sound like the answer, nor is there anyone else really in FA, looks like they might be gearing up to address this in the draft.

TEs are imperative in today's league & we need to draft one early
