It would help us enormously if we could get one trade down that nets one or two more picks in the mid rounds...
Yup...one thing that is very apparent from playing around with this game - we currently have way more needs than picks. You need to trade down and add at least 5 or 6 picks to make a decent attempt to plug current gaps in the roster. Hopefully, Idzik will do something similar when the real thing rolls around.

I've never gotten 5000. 4400+ is the highest I can get.

I think you have to be lucky too.

My latest favourite draft. Traded down and got Patterson, then traded back up into the first (two mid 2nds and a mid 3rd) to get my pass-rusher in Moore. Got very lucky with value with guys like Williams and Cyprien later:

Your score is: 4020 (Drafting Ability: A, Player Quality A, Future Draft Picks: N/A)*Your Picks:

    Round 1 Pick 18 (DAL):*Cordarrelle Patterson, WR, Tennessee (A)
    Round 1 Pick 28 (DEN):*Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M (A-)
    Round 2 Pick 30 (BALT):*Jesse Williams, DT, Alabama (A)
Round 3 Pick 12 (S.F.):*Jonathan Cyprien, SS, Florida International (A)
Round 4 Pick 9:*Vance McDonald, TE, Rice (A)
    Round 4 Pick 32 (BALT):*David Bakhtiari, OT, Colorado (A)
Round 5 Pick 8:*Zac Dysert, QB, Miami (Ohio) (A)
    Round 6 Pick 1 (JAX):*Kenjon Barner, RB, Oregon (A-)
Round 6 Pick 10:*Manase Foketi, OT, West Texas A&M (A)
    Round 7 Pick 2 (JAX):*Robert Lester, SS, Alabama (A)
Round 7 Pick 9:*Michael Williams, TE, Alabama (A)
    Round 7 Pick 17 (PITT):*Lerentee McCray, OLB, Florida (A)

There's truth to it. The draft has game strategy elements, without a doubt. It's a fixed pool and the flow of talent is variable, particularly at positions of some need. So it would be inevitable that there are multiple gameplans depending on how the draft dominoes fall. QB's tend to be the wildcard, as they can completely wreck the top end of the draft if there's a run, or vastly reduce another skill position if they're pushed down. A team like Buffalo would be greatly assisted by the latter scenario, as they could then go after a big-time defensive player in Rd 1 and still get their QB in early Rd 2. The game just shows that this is true. The player valuations are another thing entirely.

Seems like the mid-rounds are all CBs and DTs. Almost no OL, DE or WR to be found.

OL is tentative in this draft. G is very deep this year but OT will be very much hit and miss. After the top 3 OT I really don't think anyone else is a very solid pick as a 1st or early 2nd. Flucker, Armstead, Long, and Watson are all hard sells in the 2nd IMO. However the back end 4-5 rounder do look like really good up side guys. Williams, Thomas, Wagner, Weaver, and Nixon all give good late round value IMO. I think the only teams jumping on OT in the late 1st 2nd round will be teams desperate at OT.

That's the real flaw with this game. Too easy to trade down and too hard to trade up. You can end up with 30 picks from round 2 on down if you want without even trying. There is almost no recognition of trade value.

Also, how many f-ing CBs could there possibly be in this draft?

Finally got a trade up to work well - traded down in the first and ended up with two late first rounders. Also managed to trade back into the late first trading two early #2s and a mid #3 for the late first and late #4:

    Round 1 Pick 26 (G.B.):*Damontre Moore, DE, Texas A&M (B+)
Round 1 Pick 31 (S.F.):*Matt Barkley, QB, Southern California (A)
    Round 2 Pick 24 (SEA):*Jesse Williams, DT, Alabama (A)
    Round 3 Pick 27 (HOU):*Bacarri Rambo, FS, Georgia (A)
Round 4 Pick 9:*Jordan Reed, TE, Florida (B-)
    Round 4 Pick 27 (HOU):*Mike Gillislee, RB, Florida (A)
Round 5 Pick 8:*Stedman Bailey, WR, West Virginia (B+)
Round 6 Pick 10:*Shawn Williams, SS, Georgia (A)
Round 7 Pick 9:*Michael Williams, TE, Alabama (A)

    - I'll sign up for this right now. Get it done, Idzy!
