    Philly Cheesesteak Help

Me and the fam. are going to Philly tomorrow to take check out some schools like Drexel and Penn. We've been a couple of times to Philly before, and love Pat's for cheesesteaks. This time we may want to try another place, anyone know of a good cheesesteak place near University City? Thanks in advance for your kind assistance!!!

Haven't been there since the 80s. But, back then, Jim's on South Street was my favorite. Better than Geno's or Pat's. Plus, it's fun to walk around South Street.

Jim's at 4th and south st is still the best. If I had to choose b/w Genos and Pats, definitely Genos. Stay away from Ishkabibbles on south st.

To order with onion (a must IMO) just order your steak "wit"

Request the cheese type or they will use cheese whiz or just "whiz" which is a nasty concept any way you think about it.

My fav is a mushroom and provolone wit

I agree with the Jim's recommendation

They dice up the steak like Pat's. Both are really good. Enjoy.

Glad to hear Jim's is still the standard.

YUP.... don't go to Genos or PATS they both suck.

    CHES....

You MUST, absolutely MUST go to the Reading market and go to Tony Danics. The long line is there for good reason. Italian pork and broccoli raab hero. Nothing comes close.

Reading Terminal is a tourist trap, hence the long lines.

Jim's is not the standard, the meat is fatty as hell and they have been raided for drug sales twice in the last year.

No worries. As long as you're not staying anywhere close to what's shown on this ''crime map'' you should be relatively safe...

I hit Philly whenever the Army Navy game is there and stay overnight nearby the stadium. Outside of that, no desire to go into town and mingle with the lovely locals.

Keep your head on a swivel.
