Jets sign Safety Dawan Landry (Merged)

    Conor Orr ‏@ConorTOrr
    #Jets announce they've signed S Dawan Landry
So we lose out on Laron and we sign his brother.

He played under Rex in Baltimore, so he's familiar with the system. As a stop gap safety, I'm ok with this.

Good signing. Hopefully he brings some of the energy his brother did.

He is not his brother at all, however we need to at least sign one if not more safeties prior to the draft. Hopefully we have our eye on more than just him.

"Landry is the older brother of former LSU All-American safety and current Indianapolis Colts safety LaRon Landry, who was the highest-drafted safety in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins."

Well, he's a body who knows the system, so it's a start. Throw in a mid round draft pick, another low cost vet, and let Landry, the vet, Bush, Allen and the draft pick battle it out for the starting jobs.

Like his brother, he's not great in coverage. He's a good run-stopper, though, and can play in the box. I like the signing.

New #Jets S Dawan Landry, 30, graded as @PFF's No. 65 safety out of 88 last season. PFF had Landry 75th in coverage, 32nd versus the run.

In no way am I saying they are the answers but the Jets do have 2 Safeties on their roster with some experience

    Jaiquawn Jarrett

    Bret Lockett

    Cleveland Browns
Lockett was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cleveland Browns following the 2009 NFL Draft. He was waived by the Browns during final cuts on September 6, 2009.

    New England Patriots
Lockett was claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots on September 7, 2009. He was placed on injured reserve on December 9. He finished the 2009 season with seven tackles over 10 games. Following the season, Lockett was an exclusive-rights free agent before re-signing with the Patriots. He was placed on injured reserve on August 31, 2010, with a chest injury.
He was waived/injured during training camp in 2011. Lockett is expected to miss the 2011 season after tearing his groin in preseason game against the Bucs.

    New York Jets
Lockett was signed by the New York Jets to a reserve/future contract on January 2, 2013

Bret Lockett is best known for his fabricated off-field relationships that would embarrass even Manti Teo. The Jets are wise to look elsewhere for safety help.

You are right. Its getting interesting now. This team with improved QB play just might open a few eyes and shut a few mouths!

it is a good stop gap move on Jet's part. knows the system.... With so many starter and depth holes in Jet's roster, you need to get some coverage in free agency..... Let the BAP dictate your selections in the Draft.... As much as you need the Draft to build a successful team, exercising the right free agent strategy is key for maintaining balance within your roster.

Depends on what your definition of "addressed" is.
